actually mumm-ra was a priest in charge of mummification. he wanted more power so he made a deal with the spirits to get power and overthrow the pharoah. The plan failed.

I'm guessing by your comment that you never seen this episode? The point of Mumm-ra cloning panthro was to have the clone to cause destruction and mayhem so the other beings on the planet would blame the thunder Cats for it and turn against them and try to destroy them. Well that was at least what Mumm-ra was hoping for but turns out that wasn't what went down.
