I am originally from Philly. When I left in 1955 the Mummers we're string bands competing with each other. Now it is more like a theatrical show with costumes, dancing and sets, you can hardly even see the bands anymore. Not the same. I miss the old way better.

Mummers parade is one of the best in US,, well worth attending if a person has never seen it

Sad that it is virtually unknown outside of the Northeast. Yes, I realize that the Rose Parade is on at the same time, but the Mummer's Parade should be broadcasted on nationwide TV so that everyone can see what a great thing it is.

This is such a great parade. I wish it got better publicity. I'd love to watch it every year but never know when it is on or what channel.

I will record on PHL17 in 720p60, transcode to HD 2160p60 and upload to youtube on the first and second. Transcoding it will take some time so it will be later than years past.

I don't know much about the Mummers and I plan to look up their history. But their costumes remind me of the Indians of New Orleans Mardi Gras. Any relationship between the two groups? Thanks much for adding to my education!

No relation I know of, other than both started as folk festivals. The Mummers have roots that go back to medieval England, it followed to Philadelphia during the colonial days and morphed into an organized event, some of which gets very time consuming and expensive for the participants.
