that lead alto players tone is exactly what im looking for. could you tell me what type of mouthpiece he uses?

I can't tell exactly which mouthpiece he's using but I can tell you from personal experience that this type of alto sound akin to Benny Carter or Marshall Royal is usually the result of playing a large chamber mouthpiece with a small tip opening, a somewhat steep baffle and soft reeds. Similar to what you'd want to use to get a Sandborn type of sound except that you have to be very gentle and discerning with how you're using your air and what you are doing with your embouchoure instead of blowing real hard.
