After it dried you could fill the cavities with bamboo cellulose you blow in that will self pack itself which will act like insulation or you could use an expanding foam that is plant based.

House its on its final days, the first thing to fail after 6 years, were the pillars. So if you want to make one , make sure you make the strongest pillars you can make.

in my Vietnamese .....the wall like the concrete cement with...... bamboo .....instead of steel .......and clay and mix in water with rice trunk cut short ...instead of concrete cement ...After a month the wall dry and will not feel hot in the summer with the raw roof...

Why not put bamboo mats on the inside of the bamboo then tamp dirt down into the wall cavities or even use bamboo cellulose has insulstion rather then dirt?

The house lasted 8 years as it is. Walls started to deteriorate by the 7th year, I supppose with maintenance it can last another five. The main issue with wood here is that the humidity is very high, so it rots quickly.

Im looking to build a green house. With a few modifications such as no floor, plexiglass roof, etc. This would make an incredibly eco friendly green house and be quite sturdy. Thank you for the information and giving me a way to grow year around. If its not to much trouble what did you treat your main support wood with? It looks like tar but I would rather not use tar if I can help it.

How about designing a inflatable yurt out of bamboo fabric that has had the fabric impregnated with water activated ceramic? You could inflate a yurt then soak it down with water then let it cure has it dried.

***** Bamboo is roofing as well. You cut it into manageable strips (6", a foot, depends on the thickness) then you cut it in half lengthwise so you have two U shapes, then alternate them up and down. The curved up side catches the rain and puts it beyond the walls, the upside down curve covers the gaps in-between the pieces.

Jess Vagnar After that you can add insulation underneath that, doesn't matter as long as the bamboo parts are layers just like a normal shingle roof.

You use a borax solution to soak the branches in. In tropic regions they typically last 5 years naturally, western philosophy suggests 20 years+ with the borax solution, while the native construction workers I've ever seen quote between 40-60 years. I'd feel safe saying 20 years. Think about it this way, the plant bottom last their whole lives carrying tens of meters of bamboo above it, you can harvest the top and the bottom is always fine. I wouldn't be too worried about it, especially if you live in an area with bamboo present, replacing the roof would be a matter of a weekend or two (If I lived in a region with bamboo I wouldn't even use borax).
