On February 20th 1960, Iris Dawkins was playing Cowboys and Indians with her brother and friends in Mayfield Park, Southampton. When she decided to leave the group to go home no one could have known it would be the last time she would be seen alive. Despite a large initial investigation, the case would go cold for 8 years until a bizarre discovery in the same park.

Iris was living in the house at the time this happened where my grandma lives now. The house is now taken by her presence, her name is scripted on the wall in a bedroom under the wallpaper. Also multiple strange occurrences over the years multiple family members including myself have witnessed. She’s definitely showing her presence and I hope she finds peace one day. Rest in peace iris.

#Wellinever there's an unsolved murder of a woman called Betty Brown that you may find interesting. She was a mid 50s grandma who got on a bus in Edinburgh in 2008 and turned up murdered in a woods near an MOD base by Longtown Cumbria, 90 miles away. No justice or answers have been found, and people are starting to forget about her.

@@sarahholland2600 It goes to show so many of the so called "parents" are people who were never ready to be parents in the first place. I know a lot them are well meaning people who just started family without really considering everything carefully and ended up being overwhelmed and just blundering through it all. But some of them are actually really bad seed that should never be a parent (active abusers and neglectors)

Most of us who frequently get the urge to kill, take it out through video games, TTRPG's, and hypothetical or fantasy mayhem in other fashions of "entertainment" fiction and fantasy. There's a reason it's called "Fantasy"... haha... (I've been into TTRPG-mayhem since I was 10 years old for that very reason)... Many of us even know how easily and for about how long we could likely "get away with it", which might even just be a tad more frightening than the one who got away with this crime for 10 years (until he didn't)... ;o)

I think it's more a question of how police can get innocent people to admit things they haven't done, by aggressive questioning, then people being willing to admit to wrongdoings they haven't done. It's been countless examples of people admitting to things, signing papers, saying "yes" where they should have said "no", just to simply be left in peace, and be allowed to go home and sleep. I'm not sure how it is like for you, but I am more sympathetic to my own self that exist in the moment, rather then worrying about my self as I will be tomorrow.

That’s horrible, but the response is civilized. Here in the U.S., even children who are 12 and under and are known to be severely mentally ill are tried as adults. We don’t treat people according to their age and competence, we treat them according to how badly we want to punish them. It’s barbaric, but if you push back against it, people accuse you of being soft on crime.

@@mrjones2721 yes, I heard about it. Unfortunately, Germany is now discussing the possibility of lowering the age of where you could be judged as teens. Now it's 14. They say that law has gotten old and teens nowadays are more mature than in the past. I don't know if I can agree with that... They sure have more exposure to information that might make them seem more mature but I don't think young teen's abilities to judge their own actions has improved in any way...

Sadly enough last week a 12 year old girl was killed in Freudenberg, West Germany by another 12 and 13 year girls. She also was stabbed according to police reports. Investigations are still undergoing by the time i'm writing this comment but the first questionings of both girls point to a motive related to envy, a relationship and a stolen love interest. I can't imagine the paint every parent involved in this case must feel. But even more so what drives such young people to conduct such a gruesome deed.

This is off-topic, but have spring come to the UK now? The video of such a pleasant walk through a park with actually green plants look beyond wonderful. Here in Norway it's been a more harsh winter then the last 30 years I think. On-topic: Another great presentation, and a very sad tale. It make me think that very often probably just random things, and people that don't think about consequences at all, and couldn't possibly, fully comprehend their acts (or else they wouldn't do it), rather then a world of pure evil people, that are meant to die behind bars. It don't make the situation for the victims any less sad, nor tragic, nor for the families and friends left behind. 😞

I only know this, because, he appeared on Friends Reunited asking to be part of the 'School Entry'. I do not know anyone who responded to his communication. Whether he committed any more crime in Aussie or was a 'cured' person, I do not know, anyway, he has lived a carefree life in the sun, unlike his victim. So, let me get this straight. You quote the man as saying he "murdered a girl in Mayfield Park about 10 years ago", and then he also stated her full name "Iris Dawkins" to the authorities all those years later? That seems a little strange to me. He was a stranger to her. She was a just a random little girl who he didn't know and she wouldn't have had any identification on her. He followed her then chased her off into the trees and stabbed her multiple times. I'm puzzled as to why and how would he have gone to the trouble to get her name before murdering her in the first place? That's the only odd part of that story to me.

i never knew about this, my husband worked at the attatched nursery for about 5yrs. i used to play there as a child, although we were told to stay in the park, but we would walk through the woods home with our dad. my childhood dog, would run away to bitterne police station, two roads over less than half a mile away, to get an extra meal, untill they stoped feeding him. i must say you made weston look quite nice with the drone shot, these days it has a lots of socail problems and is generally tatty

I keep on thinking about the kids making up the stories. This is not always because they want to be in the spot light, but often because their own imagination runs wild to the point of them believing it to be true. Especially for the younger ones. On the other hand, when they are older and in their teens, they are often easily persuaded to suggestions. And this has quite often been used to get a false statement from them in order to 'solve' the case - often without the poor youngster knowing what they actually agreed to. I really want to believe that this is part of history, but I'm afraid that this is still used in certain places - especially towards children and youngsters of the 'lower' and more vulnerable parts of society - because it's less likely they will get the protection and help they need during an as stressed time as an interrogation.

@@briansullivan5908 Not exactly sure whom you're referring to as 'he'. I'm btw not talking about the killer in this story nor the specific children, but children and making up stories in general. It's why child witnesses always should be 'interrogated' by a child expert in the matter, and not just police or investigators.

In this case, though, they literally let that first child go since the statements were wrong. I do believe there are certain rules when it comes to questioning children as well. Like, you can't ask leading questions at all, and have to have been trained in interrogating children. Of course, it's not always followed, and it's different in different countries as well.

@@SysterYster Yes, after they were in the trial. But this hasn't always been the case in history - both way back and in modern times - and there are countless of other tragic stories in where the child or youngster will either confess to a crime, they never could have committed, or they will fatally incriminate another person, because leading questions made them give a false statement, that was taken at face value. There are rules and laws in place for when questioning a child or young person, and I really hope they are working, but as you said: different countries have different rules, so what is applied in one place might not exist in another.
