Murray Cod Fishing: How to Bait Cheese on a Circle Hook

There are several different ways to bait cheese on a circle hook, but after trying several different methods, I have found this has worked best for me and will help everyone who tries it catch more Murray Cod and other species of fish.

Larry I use String Head cheese sticks cut into small 7mm disks and thread about 5 or 6 onto a 8/0 circle hook. It doesn't catch the current and spin or wobble like flat cheese. Love the Edwards. Thank you and cheers

@@LarrysFishing Larry, I only use bait on the Edwards either at night when dossing down on the boat or parked up during the day for a bite (outside of that its all lures). The biggest cod I've pulled out of the Edwards (98cm) was just upstream from Stevens Weir at night on String Heads with Garlic Pro Cure. I use 8/0's because they very seldom catch carp and never gut hook small cod. Good luck and thanks for the Subways on the way through.

Hi Larry, like you, I have tried different cheeses and hooks for a while now on cod. I found a Tekken, long shank 2/0 bait holder hook to be quite good. With cheese, i use the Coles Mozzarella 250gm. I cut up the cheese into 1/2" cubes and slide on about 4 or 5 pieces that covers the hook and up to the hook knot. Mozzarella is very greasy. And in the water it resembles a bardi or a witchetty grub. The cheese stays on quite well and the long shank makes hook removal easy. But yeah, we all enjoy your videos so keep them coming :-) Cheers.

A very handy tip Larry. As you know, I don't use circle hooks, preferring to strike when the fish bites. That method which you demonstrated allows for a perfect presentation of the cheese though.

Have you tried cheese paste? Cheese paste solves alot more of the mounting problems on the hook and I'd argue make the bait more attractive as it leaks flavour whilst still being hard because of the chess content and the cold water. I add curry powder, chilli, gravy granules whatever.

Ok, I'm kinda new(ish) here so maybe I missed it? Do you own the subway? Cause I'm pretty sure if I pop into my local store and just walk into the kitchen with some fishing hooks and a camera, they'll call the cops! LOL Great tips Larry! I like the double hook method and I guess since its cheese, it'll collapse under the pressure of a bite and leave the hook point plenty exposed. I use circle hooks when I'm catfishing, maybe next time ill swing by the sandwich shop for bait and give this a try LOL
