The point of Gangubai marrying off her lover boy to someone else was not to hook him up or because she wasn't aware that he wanted to be with her, it was to save that 15 year old girl who did not to be a sex worker (she would have rather taken poison than work for the brothel) from being killed/harmed/shamed if she tried to go back home. So gangubai bought her freedom. But if that girl was going to stay in the Red Light District, then the safest way was for her to be married. And Gangubai knew her boy would understand that reasoning eventually, and that the girl would be safe with him. And that he was sweet enough to go with it, even if it wasn't originally understand. She knew she could trust him to be good to the girl, over any other random single men in town, so she financed their wedding even though it broke her own heart. But she was being selfless and saving that girl from a horrible death (or horrible life), which no one did/could do for her. Gangubai also thought it was for the best anyway, because the view was that people "shouldn't have a prostitute as a daughter in law", which she was but the girl wasn't.

I won't recommend watching Kalank there are far more good movies of Bhansali. Edit - I meant Bhansali has the same vive better films.

I think you should watch Kalank and judge it yourself bc yes some ppl didn’t like it but it also had a lot of ppl did like and enjoy it including myself. I never understood the hate for it so I say give it a try at least!!
