Another excellent video, with great information. I see now that I have been overlooking Darlene.

I was looking for some good information just like this, but what I liked most about this video was you bringing in the family to be a part of it. I'm going to watch the recommendations again & take some notes. I'll say Thank You & take care.

Nice tutorial on the taste of the Muscadine grapes…. I’m looking to plant in my back yard this spring. I’m in central Kentucky. I’m going to call Ison Nursery Monday and see what he recommends for my planting zone. Thanks for sharing.

Never heard of muscadines because I am from the West. I live in the South now. So I was ordering trees from Ison's and that led to a rabbit hole of muscadines. about 10 hours over 2 days and now I have also ordered 2 Ison variety vines. It seemed to be good because it was a self fertile and could do all of the different ways to consume them well.

That’s great! You will enjoy them and have fun growing them. Good luck

If you're looking to add a cultivar in the future, you might want to try "Southern Home" if you don't already have it. It's unique in a few ways. The flavor is the closest I've found to concord grapes among muscadine cultivars, so it's fun having it for a bit of variety and using in recipes where concord fits well. The lobed foliage is very pretty as well. It's done well for me year after year in our North Florida / Tallahassee area (not sure your locale but see your videos sharefair number of things I also have growing such as sago palm, persimmons, etc). MUCH enjoyed this video and will be using the scores as I look to replace 1 variety of 6 I have growing that I just don't like as much as the others (would identify name, but can't recall it-- a bronze that unfortunately just doesn't have very good flavor at all -- love all my other cultivars that include Summit, Noble, and Southern Home). Not my video, but one that shares a bit of Southern Home profile info.... kzbin.info/www/bejne/gnKroXegntCgibs

Looks like a fun test haha. I have Ison and Darlene in large pots on obelisks. Ison is the only one with berries on it now. I absolutely love it's flavor and so do a couple others who tried them vs store bought muscadines. I wish Darlene had some berries on it, but no luck this year. I had Carlos and Black Beauty too but they died over the winter. I might get them again to see how they do.

I'm in Louisiana, local nurseries have 3 choices, all crap. I just ordered your 8-pick from Isons, the 4'+ size. Only problem is they won't deliver bare roots till December when I was wanting to plant right now. At least I hope I'm getting better plants in the long run.

Thanks I am limited on space so this really helps. I think I am going to narrow them down to 12ft per plant (6ft on each side). How much space do you need between a row?
@agoutside51923 жыл бұрын
I’d say at least 8ft so you have enough room for harvesting between the rows. They can put out a lot of bushy growth during the growing season. Thanks for the comment!

Great observations.. I only have room for one right now. what would you suggest? looking for sweetness and high quantity since I will only have one. Thanks
@agoutside51922 жыл бұрын
You definitely need a self pollinating variety. If you want black I’d say Lane or Paulk. If you want gold I’d say Late Fry or Granny Val. Thanks

If I can only plant 2 muscadine plant because of space, what do you recommend?
@agoutside51922 жыл бұрын
Any of the ones mentioned in the video are great but if only two I’d say the Pam and the Lane. Thanks for commenting.
