My brother had a 70 1/2 Falcon Ranchero, 429 SCJ 4 speed with the 3:90 rear. Red w/Shaker, lazer stripe. It was 1972 when dad bought it off of a PA State Trooper and soon after my brother graduated in ‘73, dad reportedly had it stolen so my brother wouldn’t end up dead. I was 5 years old and loved that cool tach sliding left and right. My brother installed cable operated cutouts and learned the hard way one night to close them off as dad was on the porch with a bat and I was awakened by the beautiful sound only to see dad while looking out our shared bedroom, lol. Both have passed now, but I always was thinking: “What in the world did you think was gonna happen?” Of course there may have been more to it as dads Automotive Business name was painted on the tailgate, everyone knew him and I’m sure people were quick to rat big brother out, lol! Years later I did a burnout in Dads ‘67 Galaxie, on a one lane blacktop road, ALONG A CEMETERY in the middle of nowhere and you guessed it, he found out! No bat though-so call me spoiled! 😉

i think i saw on Motor Trend Engine Masters episode regarding ram air intakes that the 429SCJ made closer to 440hp and 500lb ft from factory. Good ol' ford underrating their power plants. I just saw in my feed that one of my channels put the new GT500 on the dyno and it made something like 795 instead of 760 lol. I am ok with misleading in the 'right' direction

Ford said 370 hp gross at 5400 rpm.Sure was. But it was way more than that at 5800 to 6000 rpm. Fudged real good. The SCJ 429 was just an epic emissions era engine. In three years it was down to net ratings of 216 hp as a 429 and 224 hp as a 460, with the vast bevy of 248, 261, 266 and the rare HO 275 1973 351C 4V engines that made, gasp!, More Powa Than Big Blocks. @@thunderray1987 i see where ur coming from. However consider what computer electronics have done today and what wouldve been no where near the minds of any of yall back then in the day. Look at the insane amount of power being made burning as little gas as it can while performing as awesome as modern muscle cars can. If we didnt have technology today with muscle cars, lets face it. @@blackice7408 I'm 56, I've owned a couple of Torinos with shaker hoods (429CJ, 351 Cleveland). They were fun, but my 2010 Challenger SRT is safer, more comfortable, faster, has A/C, Cruise, (Much) better gas mileage, etc., etc. No comparison. What I miss is the car culture. Cruising, wrenching, going to wrecking yards, pouring over the weekly (Magazine) Auto Trader, hanging with my car friends. That's what to miss. The cars though? As transportation, you just can't compare them. Electronics and engineers gave us lower emissions (On safer unleaded gas) and an objectively longer lasting product. But hey, don't take my word for it. Find an old car have some fun, decide for yourself. Always glad to see younger hobbyists.

@@MrOnemanop I agree with some of what your saying. These newer cars though, some stuff that is sooner or later going to go south can not be fixed. Whole car will get scrapped or, it will cost big $$$$ to fix and in most cases, will be deemed not worth it. Not the case with older muscle cars. Also, newer cars just don't have the aurora or pinnache, like older muscle cars. That being said, it is unreal how fast modern muscle is and how safe they are. Daily driver 10 sec.
