Wow the Boss 351 was a mid 13 second car and that made it faster than a 429 SCJ dragpack 71 Mustang . I owned one of these and in 1971 at Warner Robins dragstrip ( a NHRA Divisional points race track) the car went 13.43 to 13.56 (when it blew the tires off) ABSOLUTELY SHOW ROOM STOCK, , not well its stock except we put headers on it, changed the intake or carb, changed the cam, etc. I'm talking factory carb,intake (cast iron by the way) exhaust manifolds and mufflers, cam, pistons, etc.

This engine had some really trick heads that's where the horsepower came from actual HP was 370plus.

My buddy in high school had a 69 Or 70 Mach 1 351 4spd. After we graduated he purchased a 1971 Boss 351 with every option. I think he paid about $9000.00 in 1981 or so. It was completely loaded even with 8 track. We were Chevy and Chrysler guys. But when we went for a tour and man did it hump!! I thought he paid way to much but he knew what he had. His name is Mike Orz and we went to Medway SS in Arva Ontario. It was yellow and a great car! Awesome!

What made them so fast was the very special heads, the NHRA horsepower rating was 370 on this engine.

I don't want to send anyone on a wild goose chase, but I remember seeing what looked like the tattered remnants of a 71 in the trees behind the Keller's Flea Market in Savannah, GA. You'll have to go into the flea market to see it. There's a strong chance it's just a Mach1, but who knows, it might be a Boss. If anyone is nearby, I'd suggest checking it out. I forgot to get its info before the family and I left for Korea. We left in 2012, so it may have been dragged out by now, but it was really in there, so I doubt it.

I have heard from some very nolagable Ford guys that the Boss 351 will beat a Boss 302 or 429 , given that cars are geared the same and on equal tires.

Archie Bunker I highly doubt the 71 would take a boss 302 let alone a 429 .The 71 is a thing of beauty but I personally like the 69 and 70 mach 1 and the boss cars the best.That 351 boss is sweet though.The gray and black paint scheme is beautiful.
