There were many advances in Shelby performance cars for 1968, and this 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible demonstrates them nicely! The big news was the new for '68 428 Cobra Jet engine, which was rated at 335 HP and 440 foot pounds of torque in this car, but was arguably closer to the 400 range. This car also boasts the rare 4-speed transmission and convertible top, and it is also wearing a Highland Green paint scheme with a Saddle interior. The car is quite stretch from the stripped-down but racier GT350s from just a couple years earlier, but is still every bit as admired today! From the Brothers Collection.

Had a chance to buy one of these a guy in the neighborhood was selling around 1980. It was same as this car but white with blue stripe. Just loved how that car looked. I knew these cars would be worth a lot one day and wanted the car real bad. He wanted 7k which I couldn't get my hands on.........it hurt then, it hurts even more now.

There's a story told about the KR , Chevy was rumoured to come out with the name , Shelby heard of it , told his lawyer to check on it, lawyer said he'd check on it the next day. Shelby told him tomorrow I'll have new lawyer., wasn't registered by chevy yet, so Shelby got it first. just a story I read,

When I think of Shelby (or Mustang for that fact) this is the image that comes to mind, except I get a Fastback Flashback!!! Nice color-combo and condition. I like seeing the patina on the side view mirror and shift lever knob. While I am not a big Ford fan, this car (year, model & trim) is a favorite. Good hosting job as usual, Kevin. As Columbo would've said: "Just one more thing", I would like to see all of The Brothers Collection at one time.

The 66 gt350 was produced as a convertible, extremely rare, I believe only 6 were made and I don't know if they were sold to the public or private Shelby gifts.

jvolstad it was a police intercepter engine modified to be a 428 cu the 428 came out in 66 but wasn’t available for the 67 Shelby

my first car was a 63 catalina, 4 door 389 2bl., my good friend had a 68 chevelle ss 396 4 spd. ,the catolina would smoke him everytime,dirt road,hwy,from a light,pick it the catolina would win. but heres where it gets funny, my oldest brother had a 69 fairlaine with a 302 auto, it would just wipe out any of them,including vettes etc, sory mopar, you didnt win either

Had a friend with one of those big boats, 389 4bl center console....all that weight and 5 of us in the car, and that thing would haul like you could not believe. I remember flying over the railroad tracks. I could not figure out how a car that heavy could move like that.

Evolving? To me those “luxury and style items” were sure signs of the devolution of a great brand. They applied the high-performance Shelby name to bloated bun-wagons like the one featured here, knowing the rubes would snap them up at inflated prices. It worked for the T-Bird, and I guess if your only metric for success is dollars, it worked here too.

Really? with 3 simple mods and tuning you ran 11s. If it is a bun wagon the buns have spicy peppers in the middle. Remember this was a regular person car. The real sports car was at Lemans destroying all the European muscle. You really have no clue what the people wanted in the era do you? This car is everything the GTO tried to be in its tenure; loud, fast, associated with victory, visually pleasing, room for 3 in the back seat.
