65 was the best year for the GTO. First year of the stacked headlights. 64 was just a square box. 65 was the first with it's own look.

Callie The Tiger Tamer!! 🐯🐅 My dad had a black '65, he and two friends all went and bought new GTOs at the same time. I think the addition of some tube headers and electric cutouts/dumps would make this beautiful animal that much more wicked and wild! 😉😎

The son of my father's late friend still has his green '65 in the family. That car has the factory transistorized ignition, a form of early electronic ignition that was a fairly rare option from what I have heard. (It was a big circuit board behind the grille I think--1960s high tech!!!) He was planning on restoring it, but we haven't seen him in ages, so I am not sure where things are at with it or what ended up happening.
