Your lecture on muscle physiology helped me have a clearer understanding on motor units and what a strong and weak contraction looks like. Not being able to be in class and the online lectures provided by my instructor, its difficult to learn as I cannot see the person teaching. Being able to see you demonstrate what each concept looks like as a whole, its very helpful for me. Thank you!

Excellent information, especially liked the size principle explanation. Still, I would love to know "how" the motor neurons of the smallest muscle fibers are the most excitable.
@nidanisar
@nidanisar 4 жыл бұрын
Martin Weihrauch since they are small, their threshold potential is low, they need low potential to excite them, therefore, they are more excitable...

I had a question, looking at the size of the muscle fibers being recruited, you stated that the smaller muscle fibers are recruited first then the medium size and finally the largest. However, on your muscle fiber type video, you mention that type IIx are the most powerful yet medium sized and the type IIa are the largest but are more for sustained effort. Can you explain.. Thanks,

Thank you so much for this great video. If you let me, I have a question. If I added a stimulus that is greater than the maximal stimulus, wouldn't that make the contraction longer in time? if not, could you please explain? Thank you..
@SergioPerez-oo4xy
@SergioPerez-oo4xy 5 жыл бұрын
Abdulbary Alhalimi it wouldn’t make the contraction longer because once maximal threshold is met. The muscle would produce maximal force at a maximal frequency. The large stimulus would however build up and allow for another contraction to happen ( after it repolarizes ) which will stimulate it again to maximal tension. Which would lead to full tetanus. But if you add an outside stimulus ( tens unit) that continuously supplies a stimulus that is equal to or great than maximal stimulus threshold then that would keep the muscles in a contracted for a longer period but that would induce a tremendous amount of trauma to the muscle causing tearing that would leave the fibers in a state of prolonged soreness or worse. Lucky the body has an array of efferent sensory fiber that help maintain proper force production and fail safes to reduce neural drive of the muscle is in danger of shifting into a state that would harm the organism.
@shailkumarjain
@shailkumarjain 4 жыл бұрын
@@SergioPerez-oo4xy could you mind explaining how about all or none rule ? If a muscle fibre is activated to threshold it will fire to its pull potential. So it is not applicable here ?? Could you mind explaining please. Thank you.
