I love this album so much. Only song i sometimes skip is the title track but all the others are great! I didn't like ghosts at the beginning but it grew on me a lot! We are fucking fucked has an amazing outro which pairs with knights of Cydonia, the energy is fantastic. This album is a 9/10 for me

The studio wanted them to make a “Best of Muse” album with the 9th album. Matt said in an interview they weren’t ready for that so they made an album in which each song will take the listener back to earlier albums. However he also said a few songs would be more original in which I think that applies to the Halloween song & Ghosts. I’ve loved Muse since 2003 & agree with the Reviewer in that it ends with a bit of a dud. Previous good last songs on an album include megalomania on origins, Knights of Cydonia on Black Holes & Revalations, the haunting self titled Drones and even the Void on Simulation Theory was a nice ending. Kind of wish Kill or be Killed was the last song.

The best way I can describe this album is that it feels like a singles collection; a catalogue of references from all their albums.

This deserved album of the year. From start to finish there was a bit of everything that they've done in the past and polished up. I listen to this somewhat often still

Really enjoyed the album and always great to hear new stuff from my fav band! Not huge on Verona and Compliance, but the rest of the album ranges from decent to amazing so I'm still happy! my favs are probably WOTP, Liberation, WSD, Ghosts, KOBK and WAFF.
@sillygoose44722 жыл бұрын
Took me 2 years to take simulation theory seriously, but when I did I really liked it. It prepared me for this, which is also slapping you around with such different sounds and styles. Very very cool though, and taps into the frustration with government overreach that's running like a train with no brakes. Very cathartic
@mickaelperrier63792 жыл бұрын
Verona reminds me a lot of U2, especially Love Is All We Have Left (2017) for the atmosphere and singing, and Where the Streets Have No Name (1987) for the guitars. And agreeing about both last tracks, I am used to beautfiul, dark, softer closures from Muse. Euphoria in my opinion is THE teenage-movie cheerful track of THIS album; they've had one since Drones (2016) at least, with the unpopular Revolt and Get Up & Fight. And We Are F-word F-word, was weird at first, but I grew fond of it. Still unsure about it being last but they didn't have that many options… It is a very short album, and most tracks in the end feel a bit compressed, I would have liked them to take a bit more their time and more often go over 4 minutes.
@jadyassine84842 жыл бұрын
I immediately thought of Where the Streets Have No Name when listening to Verona. Sadly, for this exact reason, it's not resonating with me as much as it is with many other fans. It's not that I dislike it, it's just not the one bringing me to tears; that would be Ghosts to be quite honest.

For some reason, a lot of people thought Compliance was anti-vax, which I think is where the controversy comes from. It isn't, though
@RockingWithRobby2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think politically, people are becoming so pulverized that any kind of anti authoritarian messaging in a song is automatically associated with some modern political issue. So that makes a lot of sense to me.
@lawrencerubin87192 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed your review! Personally I don't see how Euphoria is any more repetitive than Will of the People or Compliance lol. And We Are Fucking Fucked is very enjoyable but it is pretty strange to have it as an album closer. My favorite song on the album is Verona!
@RockingWithRobby2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I really appreciate that! Euphoria might be a me problem honestly haha. Verona is beautiful, great choice!
@IndianaJeff2 жыл бұрын
It closes the album as it bookends the story they are telling here. WOTP opens with optimistic riots and revolutions. They think they are going to change the world. As the album progresses it becomes apparent the people were gaslighted and the revolution never happens. Calls for compliance ultimately lead to a populace pleading for happiness (euphoria). This brings about the closing realization that the revolution never happened, we are happy slaves, and will now be subject to an endless stream of crisis… indeed we are fucked.
@mickaelperrier63792 жыл бұрын
I think Euphoria is repetitive and sort of "uninteresting" rhythmically and harmonically during the chorus, at least the rhythm guitar. It is simply tac-tac-tac-tac-tac-tac… Similar to Revolt I think. But Euphoria is still very ok. (And Verona, damn)
@Scottistic2 жыл бұрын
@@RockingWithRobby i think Euphoria depicts a reliance and addiction based society where the populous are placated through drugs. Or drug like thing. It’s repetitive because it’s illustrating the addiction and need for constant and frequent hits to make them feel alive

My first time hearing the album I didn't like WAFF as a closing track, but now I like it very much. It's aggressive with a punk vibe and humorous with the Queen-like "hole up!" "Stock pile!". It makes the album a less serious affair and I don't think that's bad.
@mad-tris892 жыл бұрын
I have been a fan of Muse since 2001, I do prefer the heavier tracks. I like the new album, yes there a couple of tracks that are a bit meh like ghosts or Verona, I love compliance as it has a good beat and Chris's bass line is superb. Kill or be killed is amazing nice and heavy. Been listening to Halloween a few times I just like the rhythm of it. I believe warner asked Muse to do a greatest hits album, Muse decided to take all the different styles they have done over the years and make a new album instead. Ghosts was written by Matt during the lockdown, around the same time as his solo stuff according to the interview he did with Zane Lowe. Good review. I'm seeing Muse next year, can't wait for it.

I really like the variety of sounds captured in the songs. There are very heavy rythm-songs like won’t stand down or compliance, whereas there are also songs like ghosts that give you the feeling of a Disney movie. I really like the album!

I found interesting the choice of first three tracks: 1. Will of the people - the prospective of an "anarchist" opposition. And I think that its rather sarcastic than serious, especially if you catched "will of sheeple" during the pre-bridge part. 2. Compliance - the prospective of people in power. Nothing else to add. It's quite clear in the lyrics. 3. Liberation - again the prospective of opposition but different one. Not awkwardly funny anarchist, but someone more human. At least, I didn't feel any relation to WOTP song while listening Liberation. And that's what forced me to think about the choice of the first three songs. Is it a hint that the active "funny" opposition and the people in power are actually merged together as two sides of a one coin? To support this theory. At the end of "Compliance" video there are three characters wearing masks. And at the end of "Will of the People" video there are three characters who take off masks and then you see the same three masks you saw at the end of "compliance" video. In the end, I do enjoy the new album despite I expected it to be heavier after "Won't Stand Down" and "Kill or Be Killed". I agree that "Euphoria" is the weakest song in the album. At the beginning it reminded "Origin of Symmetry" but then it came to "Simulation Theory" 😅 And the last song I actually liked a lot. And It has an outro from "Knights of Cydonia". Thank you for your review.

There's nothing here that is lyrically incongruent with any of Muse's previous work. It makes zero sense to mistrust the state in music then suddenly just do an about face for the sake of tastefulness at a particular time. I mean what were people enjoying about the lyrics before if that's this case? "Thought they were only joking" ha. Aside from that I was surprised at the energy and overall solidness of the album. It's a pretty good return to form and lots of fun.

Most song reviewers (not you) reached a point where they think music sucks if you want to have fun making it. If it's not perfectly mixed to their taste and doesnt have deep meaningfull lyrics then its isntantly bad for them. Not to mention the ones that make everything political
