The collections of the Prado Museum vividly exemplify the evolution of the image of this queen who became the most powerful woman of the Spanish Monarchy by assuming the regency in 1665. This documentary explores the iconographic strategies employed by Mariana of Austria to construct her regal image, legitimize and strengthen her political position, and disseminate her power among the Baroque European courts.
The Prado Museum treasures the stories of great women who were key figures in artistic patronage. The documentary series The Female Perspective brings us closer to these queens, princesses, regents, and governors who made significant contributions both to the creation and consolidation of the Museum and to enriching the collections that we are fortunate to admire today.
