There is a big difference between top 20 and top 10. He needs about 1600 points to get to No. 10. That's a lot of points, and it means he would really need to do really well at the biggest tournaments, repeatedly throughout the year. He still has a very long way to get to that level.

Level of all ATP top 100 players is unreal. People who don’t play tennis have no idea how difficult is to play at the level of any of these matches in Chengdu, for example. Hanfmann has never played an ATP semifinal on hardcourt and, yet, look how good is his tennis. He is nowhere near the top 20 but is a tennis monster. Imagine how monstrous one has to be to hold a top 10 position.
