this is a very abstract song, and everyone can understand it different, based on their experiences. this is how I interpreted it! I don't think the little monster represents a greedy person, I believe it represents an ambitious one. like a child, that takes their understanding and opinions based on those around them. they're ambitious and want to be big, in a way. it could be influence, it could be knowledge, something like that. but, as represented at the last part of the song, something happens. maybe they discover something they shouldn't, or they made a big mistake. and the thing is, it WASN'T out of malice, it was out of ignorance. the monster just wanted to have the color yellow. if they knew the consequences, they probably wouldn't have eaten the child. but now its too late, as they will always be the 'child-eating monster'. what the moster did was wrong, yes, but they didn't know better. because of that bad experience, they regret everything. they want to go back to before they were ambitious. they want to become pure and clean again, even at the cost of their individuality. this... really spoke to me. its a really great song. thank you, mushipさん :))

i personally believe this song is about a//iction, in which their life is dull and unexciting, and they turn to the use of illegal s/bst/nc/s and (more likely) alc/h/l which, yes, do make their life less dull, but also cause them to do things that they thought would be good in a delirious state but are *not* good in fact, the whole eating the child thing is a metaphor for doing something that make people perceive them as a monster for as long as they are still alive, and they cannot just wash away their actions

Honestly, that's how I interpreted it! Moreso due to personal experiences ueue but still! Since I have autism, ever since I was young I had the habit to mask and copy people around me because I knew that something about me wasn't considered as "normal" to others. When I was on my own, I didn't really have a personality, I was in this constant neutral state but saw myself as bland and dull, so I envied people around me and wanted to become like them. (Hence the creature being transparent and wanting to be all colors) Though because of that, I became a very influencible child and easy to mannipulate. I learnt it the hard way when I started to befriend the wrong people who were horrible influences on me and tried to copy them. Eventually the hatable persona I took on from them made me lose a lot of my friends to the point of no going back and I remember having this huge meltdown because I wanted to go back to the more innocent and curious version of myself I was when I was younger (or when I was hanging out with the right people) To this day I still feel like I'm "dyed in red", but I'm learning from my past experiences and am trying to build myself a personality of my own instead of trying to be like someone I'm not. Also that it's alright to just be "bland".

I take this song as someone who’s severely depressed, and numb with little emotion, so he considers himself a “monster”. In the beginning of the song it describes how he relies on a little bit of electricity , which is a metaphor for the little bit of energy that’s keeping him alive, he decide to pick up his life a bit and start collecting “colors” (a metaphor for different emotions). He’s overjoyed that he no longer feels numb (it talks about how happy he is to have collected color and electricity, which is a metaphor for emotions and energy) but he’s still lacking the emotion he wants the most, “yellow” (or happiness). He meets a very happy person (boy in raincoat) and so he relies on the raincoat boy heavily (trying to gain their yellow/happiness) but the raincoat boy ends up cutting him out of his life because the color seeking man is relying on him too heavily,, the man is now left with a different emotion after being cut off which is red (metaphor for anger) he doesn’t like this emotion because it starts to take over his entire brain/life in a way. He finally decides to “drink water until he dies” which I think is a metaphor for, he wants to numb himself again for the rest of his life (until he dies) because water is colorless and clear. So that would lead him to becoming numb. The “eyes rolling back” may be a hint to suicide especially since they show him peacefully floating at the end. I’m not sure if the “monster” is actually man nor am I sure that my theory is true. But I wanted to get my ideas out here :)

im gonna try my best to guess what this song is about without looking it up. A monster was brought into the world and to their amazement, the world was full of colors. They thought the colors were so pretty, they wanted all the colors to themself. They proceeded to eat all the colors of the world. Somehow, they weren't able to find anything yellow to eat anywhere, this made them very upset. They see a child wearing a yellow raincoat and they become enraged. The child had something that they didn't have. They wanted all the colors, every color in the world. They ate the child, but instead of yellow, the monster was covered in red.

Fishy Boi They said it on Twitter quite a long time ago.
The “monster” represents a self hateful person, referring themself as a monster, stealing and taking things for self validation. They’ve stole so much, but the void in their soul has not been quenched. They are so desperate for *something*, they murder a child to get it. The blood on their hands, they are thrown into prison, stuck to rot in for life, forever longing for what is forever lost; their innocence.

For everyone commenting about the "eating children" part, while I can't say for sure the meaning intended by mushi-p, I interpret it as such: A monster, in the most childish, general idea of what a monster is, does horrible things like eating children. Now, what would be the equivalent for a human being? It doesn't necessarily have to be murder, but Say you do something horrible, something you regret so much while you're figuring yourself out, growing up (trying on different "colors"). You can't ever take back that horrible thing, you are "stained" for life a deep red by it. Yes, you can move on, perhaps you can become better and learn from it, but even if it's not on the outside, the stain is still there. It's something you can't ever go back and not do, never change. That's how I interpret this song and specifically "eating the child in the yellow raincoat".

I know this song is relatively old based on comment frequency and someone’s probably done another theory similar to this, but I feel like the song can be interpreted in a different way: Someone puts on “colors” (emotions) for other people (“I don’t have a body, so I put on colors”, “I project the pattern onto my neck”, “I’ll project my body with all these colors”) depending on what’s around them (“Let’s keep eating what I’ve found”). This person might also be manipulative (“I want a color of my liking, so I roam around”) or just want someone / something that can bring them an emotion that isn’t fleeting, barely existent, or isn’t there at all. They want to do this to keep up the idea that everyone should experience emotion, including them, but their attempts come off as fake / shallow (“Look everyone! Isn’t this fun and beautiful?”). Eventually, they can never pretend to be happy (“But I still haven’t come across the color of lemons yet” “and when I got tired and couldn’t walk anymore”), and grow tired of faking their emotions. Whenever they pretend to be that emotion, they “don’t digest it” “put it on like a raincoat” (they don’t actually feel it, it’s just a mask). However, they want to feel that emotion (“I want enough to fill me up, my very own color”) and might be able to feel other emotions at this point (“I got a body, and now I’m happy”) or have tricked themselves into believing this. They finally meet someone who is happy. This makes them angry (see how the lyrics at 2:23 conflict with the background imagery, they aren’t actually happy, the creature looks mad, is running, the text is bright red) because they cannot feel happiness themselves, so they decide to destroy (eat) that person’s happiness, which only makes them angrier and sad instead of happy. This might be a literal reference to “offing” the child or just treating them terribly. Maybe also a car crash considering the sort of glass-metal-breaking sound at the “splash” at 3:02, also the child was wearing a raincoat so they may have been walking across the street cheerfully to school. At 3:37 they say they want to become what they were before, “pure, transparent electricity”, what they were before they pretended to be other things in order to cater to other people. Their image in the background is red and continues to get continuously more warped, maybe regret or anger for what they’ve done or that they got caught? 3:43 “I’ll be drinking water forever, until the day I die” might be a metaphor for how water dilutes paint, they can’t feel their own emotions as strongly as others anymore because they don’t know what’s theirs and what’s others. At 3:52 their eyes roll up in their head. Maybe they’ve died? Also the flashes of animals at 3:58. Adult violence and sometimes psychopathy / sociopathy that leads to m*rder (which would explain why they can’t feel anything but “red” anger or nothing at all) is sometimes associated with animal abuse as a young child. Also note how it changed from “I want to know all the colors” to “I want to BECOME all the colors”. Maybe at first they just wanted to know what they were and then started to actually crave feeling them? This is just my interpretation though so maybe I’m either going insane or not idk
@luxill0s3 жыл бұрын
Another thing I wanted to add is about how the image of the monster warps and gains some more fuzzy edges that are dots like at 0:51 and 0:17. Oh and how at 0:54 the visuals get extremely chaotic when they say “I want enough to fill me up, my very own color” (red fire, red lyric spam, etc). I’m still unsure about the scarf thing, but the singer also “gains a body” afterwards… I don’t know if it’s a reference to h*nging or not. In the very beginning the images also frequently have been edited to be overly saturated (esp around 0:24) but towards the middle of the song they become more “normal”. Adding to the thing about the kid crossing the street and them likely hitting the kid with their car: at 1:00 it shows images of ducklings appearing, the biggest being red (the color they “turn” after getting rid of the yellow kid) then a small pause with the glass crashing noise, a horn sound effect, and a black screen. The color typically associated with ducks, is, well, yellow. The kid’s raincoat also has an image of the “monster” or maybe a cat on it, and the text う し apparently says “what is it?” but other websites associate it with “cow” and “cavity”, I don’t know Japanese so I’m by no means an expert on this.

I also just want to ad-lib that the monster/person probably killed the child instantaneously rather than torturing them. I feel like the lyric describing that is meant to be momentary, to illustrate the momentary insanity that surged through the monster. I also like the lyric “I’ll soak and soak the color of the raincoat in” because it means the monster is still in the delusion it did nothing wrong, expecting to turn yellow, to become happy. Instead, it becomes red, remorseful. Ok, ok, one last thing: You know how you can constantly hear the rubber ducky squeaks throughout the song, right? What color are rubber ducks? Yellow. Everything seems to be reminding the monster of its own pitiful existence. Oh wait, I lied: The amber grain might represent how; as amber looks sorta like yellow (if you squint), it shows us how the monster will never truly reach happiness. SYKE I got more! Don’t forget “I want to say bye-bye to uneasy feelings”. Meaning, uneasy feelings are most, if not all, of what the monster knows.
