We have to make sure to clarify that it didn’t start the genre. SAO, Re Zero, and quite a few others started before (re zero was like 6 months before). It started the current type of isekai, you know, the loser dies by truck, has op magic, is part of a minor noble branch (technically. Rudy is part of a MAJOR noble family, but his dad has been disowned, so he has no political power really), gets harem, etc. It set the mold for lower quality isekais to copy.

Not really the first(lots of earlier examples of isekai) but definitely popularized a lot of tropes. Does get the reputation of being the ‘first’ to some because it was among the first fan translated and posted in English online on subreddits like noveltranslations.

speaking of mushoku tensei which introduced the isekai genre as far as I know the light novel was released in 2012

Hell, RZ, Konosuba and Overlord all are variations of the isekai genre (Re zero going against the op protag trope, same with konosuba, and overlord makes the protag evil). Hell, isekai is old. Alice in wonderland, Chronicles of Narnia, and Wizard of Oz are technically isekai. Also Digimon off the top of my head. What MT did was set the mold for the current type of isekais. If you look at most isekais that came out after 2012, a lot of them copy MT, as MT was the most popular of them (it was number 1 on the WN website for years, until Slime isekai got the anime boost). Current rankings, 1. Slime isekai 2. MT 3. Campfire camping in another world 4. Arifureta 5. Kumo desu ga, Nani ka (so I’m a spider, so what) 6. Re zero. Other honorable mention, 25. Shield hero.

MT is most definetly one of the Top isekais, as it was number 1 for years until slime isekai got the anime boost (anime comes out, and people want to keep reading, so they go to manga/LN/WN. Plus the WN finished April 2015, while slime ended in July 2020 (did not know it was finished)

Talking about isekai patterns in terms of tensei mushoku is a bit out of place. Because if I remember correctly. Mushoku is the FIRST isekai (manga). So all these isekai schematics you will see are made by this production. Roxy is quite young. He is about 40-60 years old.

Yeah, TBATE was inspired by MT, and you can see it pretty heavily at some parts. However, it doesn’t go further than inspiration. Yeah, it takes the skeleton (like these two parts are the same if you say it synopsis wise, but once you actually read, the differences are very big. It uses the things differently. And then at one point it completely splits off. MT is more of a biography of a life, while TBATE is more of a battle focused story.
