Something that's super interesting about this entire video is you both were a huge part of the tide turning on stunt skating. Not that it's a bad thing, but your videos were some of the first to go mainstream that truly showed that you can have fun skating and not die, and people believed it. - Travis | Blader Union

Brandon Negrete deserves a lot of credit for pushing it in a different direction too.
@ThisWeekinBlade3 жыл бұрын
@@MushroomBlading sure. But between Circ Duh Sol Eh and Better Than Baseball, and finally MB1, your crew was one of the first big things that broke free of the hammer era to make it big. Brandon's videos still had that level of stunt in there with sections on Bcam, Farm, etc. Yeah, there were little blurbs with some dudes not doing death stunts, but your group was literally the first "Joe Schmoe's" who made it mainstream and people paid attention. No one was filming with Negrete unless you were someone. You were no ones having way more fun. Better than Baseball was one of the most influential skate videos of all time. Skating today would be very different without it. Those words had a lot more weight 4 years ago before the huge resurgence, but now everyone skating again is seeing the normalization you created with that video that didn't exist before then. If they know it or not, modern skating was heavily shaped by your video releases in the mid to late 2000's. - Travis | Blader Union

Yeah, the way a lot of people skate now, you can actually grow old doing it. It's fun, it looks cool, it's challenging, but the injury risk is way lower. The stuff you're watching in this video is how a kid ages thirty to sixty years in a millisecond.

I made it 2 minutes. then I fear clicked through the video. then just went to the end to see how you guys were doing. WHY!?!?! about 22 years ago I had a friend who was mad at me because during a night session he wanted to jump a 30 set gap and I was advising against it - he had never done more than 10 before this attempt. his mindset was: you should be pumping me up not warning me of the dangers. he did it, there were others who were like DO IT MAN, in his m12s, and collapsed in a pile on the floor. he was okay thankfully but could hardly walk, so not only did he slow down the session moving from spot to spot, he had to wear my shoes since he didn't bring his and he had some kind of foot stank that stayed with those shoes for the rest of the time I owned them. fast forward to last week: I watched Danny Beer's section last week, got stoked, went out for a solo session, missed a makio on ledge first trick (no stretch no warm up) and I am covered in scrapes right now, knee, hand, elbows. that friend probably hasn't put skates on in 20 years and I've spent the last 20 years falling on my ass and anyone of those falls I could have cracked my head open. lots of fun tho!

I used to do some fairly large gaps in the era where most of these falls took place. For me it wasn't really about proving anything but moreso that it was the one aspect of skating I excelled. At the time I wasn't very good at grinding and I had more fear of shinning myself on a 2 foot high handrail than taking a 12 foot drop. I think a lot of that had to do with me being somewhat of a daredevil with heights even before I started skating, coupled with the fact that my ST9's had such good shock absorption it made me feel like a superhero being able to land things easier and with less pain in the feet and legs than if I was in shoes. I think you guys are right about a lot of the pros in this era though, pushing things to this level because of that one joke we all know. This video was difficult to watch, brought back some phantom pains hahaha. Thanks. :D

That era of Hammertime, those dudes were crazy. You can see it in there face as they escape death only to die worse second try, its maddness. Billy O'Neil seems chill be he is from that mental era of maniacs.

I feel like Wizard skating is just an evolution from aggressive skating. Like, you get older, get a family and think to yourself ''Hmm... I really like to be creative on skates but am I really gonna keep jumping off half a damn building and grinding crazy shit?''.
