If anyone has got the Freud soundtrack "Thirsty Girl" was temp tracked to the hyper sleep scene at the beginning of the film

you can sort of see why Ridley got rid of a lot of the music. The original cue "The Cupboard" where Ripley finds the alien on the shuttle is bonkers and would never have worked, the same with "Out the Door" where Ripley ejects the alien. That particular track was on the LP re titled "Breakaway". The Freud stuff does work very well. I recommend the Freud soundtrack and Alien the complete original score by Intrada

This reminds me of that story about 2001, where Kubrick used NONE of Alex North's music! Sad that Jerry Goldsmith was unhappy, but I have to say that Ridley Scott's instincts were correct.

Yeah, I get the impression Goldsmith is a little too in love with his own brilliance. It was after all Ridley's vision - and best to have only one Chef in the kitchen when making such an amazing feast.

@@DrWhom I agree. Scott has a bit of a pattern of not trusting his composers. Mr. Goldsmith’s work was brilliant, as it always was. Another example of Scott not trusting his composers? Vangelis and “Blade Runner”.

yeah, as much as he's contributed some iconic themes to the series, it seems like Goldsmith just wasn't the right pick. There were definitely composers and musicians at the time who would understand the idea of reflecting the visuals, or creating a less romantic atmosphere for space, but it sounds like that wasn't the tradition he was used to working in.

Giler is not nice and rather pushy. Well, nice guys get washed away with the snow and the rain.
