It's mixed. I've seen most tier lists put it shamefully low, and I've seen a few others give it nothing but praise. One even said they didn't consider it just a song like the rest but an anthem. Another said it goes harder than Hellfire. It's got it's following, and no other song has Daisuke's favor more than Necessary Discrepancy. The Creator himself is our lead man.

I've always said the Strive OST is a love letter to the vast diversity of metal and rock, showcasing a wide array of niches and subgenres (thrash, prog, pop punk, math rock, etc.), and there is something for everyone to love. Not only that, but the character themes are deeply representative of the characters themselves. Ramlethal was a person born for a singular, utilitarian purpose, devoid of nuance and empathy. However as time goes on, she starts to see the complexity and depth of the world, coming to understand the conflicting ideas and entities within it not as contradictory, but as complimentary. She discovers this clash of impulse, sensation, and sentiment constantly redefines the world, allowing people to define for themselves who they are. The interplay of sorrow, joy, anger, virtue, tragedy, chaos, and desire are not the failings of life but the Necessary Discrepancy that makes it unique and precious. Modality has a different meaning for music and logic, but I think it was a brilliant choice to utilize one to highlight a character's exploration of the other.

One of the reasons why this theme changes so much is because it's supposed to represent Ramlethal's growth in the story. She begins as just a weapon created by the Universal Will, ordered to bring war to humans and ends up joining their side after learning about how valuable each life is. The Universal Will is represented by the female vocalist Aisha while Ramlethal herself is represented by the male vocalist Naoki. Ramlethal starts by following the Universal Will but as the song goes on she starts going her own way. I love this theme even if it's not the best one to have during a fight in the game.
@spice2688 Жыл бұрын
This theme is very underrated in my opinion. It's about middle of the road in terms of popularity, and its definitely a "you either love it or hate it" song. No denying the quality of the composition no matter what side of the fence you are on though.

Probably this, The Circle, Mirror of the World and The Town Inside do the best at a thing a LOT of Strive's themes try to do which is replicate the character's own story in both lyrics and music. How the song develops and keeps presenting new points of view and refuting them, reaching a conclusion in the middle then restating it with even more conviction at the end is mind blowing. Yes, I DO see the discrepancy, actually. All this tonal shift keeps setting the stage for these different "arguments" being brought forward. Both the instrument and the vocals sell it so well. I play Potemkin, Ram is one of worst matchups and STILL I can't help but love this theme to bits

I teared up when I first heard the verse after the synth solo on this one, the oart where he sings "that is the voice of life." That whole section has so much soul and emotion packed into just a small snippet of the song, the drummer just slamming away at his kit the entire time like a crazy heartbeat, and the guitarist, almost quietly by comparison, playing part of an old GG theme that relates to Ram underneath it all. Amazing piece of art, this whole song.
@minatomink9555 Жыл бұрын
The reason I love this song is because this talks about how Ram slowly progress, going from wanting to destroy humanity to protecting it! The lyrics are the key to figuring that out.

I feel like this track was immensely inspired by Emerson Lake and Palmer's TARKUS from 1971 You'll find that a lot of japanese videogame music was inspired by that album and Karn Evil 9 specifically, ELP was very popular in japan and it's safe to assume many of the musicians that worked in those games OSTs grew up with their prog rock sound, another example of a track clearly inspired by tarkus is DANCING MAD from Final Fantasy 6

For lore, Ramlethal is a being created by an entity called Univeral Will. Universal Will was originally tasked to find out how humans can have eternal happiness, but eventually decided that not a single true human has existed. So, it decides to kill all humans and start from scratch, Ramlethal was created to kill all humans. The beginning to me feels like Universal Will trying to brainwash Ramlethal to focus all her being for that. Being represented by the female vocalist, while the male vocalist is meant to be Ramlethal. The first instrumental break feels like Ramlethal's declaration for war against humanity. Eventually after being captured, Ram ate a burger and realized that humans are alright. No, but more seriously, she was created to not express her emotions. But after bonding with a dog, which got killed and replaced by the killer, she began to understand emotions and realized completing an objective isn't all there is to life and that life does have value. Note that after the second chorus the female vocalist is mostly gone. Towards the end it's just Ramlethal trying to understand the world she now lives in, through contradictions being able to exist at the same time. Black and white, one is total absorption of light, other is total reflection of light. What is the difference? an infinite amounts of shades of grey.

I get what they mean. It's got a lot of voices that don't always seem to play nice with each other - the keyboard especially feels like it's off doing its own thing in the front half. Maybe I just don't have an ear for it, or maybe it's proper music nerd shit. Mind you that's totally by design, the discordant feel is the point. That's where Ram is at. For me it's all worth it for the end, because everything comes together beautifully. That front half has grown on me though. Being a challenging piece isn't actually a flaw.

i love this theme purely because i see it as an inverted homage to Diva, the final boss track and theme of the original Valentine in GG2 Overture (also all of the Valentine tracks in Xrd are entire references to Diva's composition) the lyrics to Necessary Discrepancy are perfect and display Ramlethal's story from beginning to end and it's beautiful also quick tangent i love the beginning lyrics of the song cuz Aisha's vocal part can easily represent the Universal Will and her control over Ramlethal with NAOKI representing Ram's own voice and thoughts repeating what Aisha is singing the part where they both sing at the same time is like the Will feeding her mind with all these negative aspects of humanity as it has a very pessimistic view of it and its these aspects what motivates it to destroy the world, and Ramlethal being under control can't help but repeat these same views all until when the vibe of the song completely changes and NAOKI is shouting that last lyric louder than he did before and he suddenly has full control of the song and now we move onto Ramlethal discovering uniqueness in herself and the people around her as she begins to have full control of her thoughts and emotions

There may be better songs from Guilty Gear, but as far as I'm concerned, Necessary Discrepancy is the *anthem* of the soundtrack, and possibly of the entire series. It encapsulates a lot of raw emotions, expressed in the unbridled passion of someone who has just had a profound personal revelation. If you can listen to this song and not come away affected, I'll assume you either are entirely heartless, or weren't paying attention.

I was trying to get a theme for a combo compilation, clicked on Necessary Discrepancy and was sorely disappointed (I had only listened to the beginning part of the song). A bit more research on Guilty Gear soundtrack and apparently the series has good music? I wanted to still avoid this theme. I thought that the entire song would've been something like that and I didn't want it to be. I had listened to plenty other Guilty Gear themes and fell in love with majority of them, but this song came back on one of my mixes. Oddly enough, I went: "Wait... this actually isn't bad!"
