Essentially the same band with the same members. Sound Horizon came first and plays original works; they're mostly story-based musical stuff (think Disney musicals but on crack and less dialogue, or Andrew Lloyd Webber type stuff) which is why you sometimes hear speaking voices and narration in the background. Linked Horizon is for collaborations and commissons with other properties like Attack on Titan and the Bravely Default video games; the naming helps separate their work. Revo is the composer and main singer for both.

I understand REVO being the main singer for Linked Horizon, but Sound Horizon doesn't really have a main singer, it has a lot of singers

Even other people like it or not, I can't deny that SH is incredible talented. Each albums of them have deep meaning like a puzzle, some base on myth and fairy tales, some base on religion, some base on different story/context in real life. Some albums you must try to puzzle and solve the hidden message like Roman, Nein. Lots of songs are dark and deep but when he connects all the songs, in the end of album he always want to send a message of hope. Revo himself can sing, play lots of instruments and also can be a conductor. He can sing and compose in different languages too. Moira was singing in Greek + Japanese, Romans was singing in French + Japanese, Marchen was singing in German + Japanese, some albums was singing in English + Japanese, Spanish + Japanese. Their performance on stage was great with high quality VR from 10 years ago. Sounds insane to me. This album Marchen bases on Grimm fairy tales and the story of Rheinland Pfalzgraf, Landgraf of Thüringen. That's why you can hear German in this song.
@jonasw3945 Жыл бұрын
It's the exact same band lol, Linked Horizon is just the name of the band when they do music for stories and soundtrack purposes like anime and video games. Revo the singer here is the same in Linked Horizion and is the composer for it too. The "bands" are actually just Revo, he is the only permanent member and he basically does everything, he is always credited for vocals, composition, arrangement, guitar, percussion, conductor, accordion, bagpipes, piano. Other guest vocalists are there sometimes like the guy who does naration type vocals in german or japanese you can hear him in AOT and in this song + some recurring live musicians for live performances

Other commenters have already explained the relationship of Sound and Linked Horizon, so for an extra piece of context, this is the first song of an epic historical fantasy rock opera concept album named Märchen, and it's my favourite SH album - although they're all great (they're all more or less epic historical fantasy rock opera concept albums). One song usually tells a part of the story, but for the full story you need the entire album. Usually the most standalone listenable song in an SH album is the first one, as is here, as it's kind of the introduction to the story while the rest of the songs are the actual story. tl;dr: there's more of this - a *lot* more - and it's all great

11:48 That is indeed the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku. In the stage play, this voice is a cursed(?) doll that talks to the protagonist, encouraging him to take revenge. She appears at the end of each song to give ridiculing remarks to the moral of the story.
@KagamineRinVocaloid Жыл бұрын
Not to mention that the doll is an amalgamation of the protagonist childhood friend memory and his angered mom, who was burned alive due to witchcraft.

Sound horizon is basically the name the band uses for original works (every single album and single follows a distinct storyline) and Linked Horizon is the name credited for all the works for Anime (AOT being the big one, but also the song Moon Pride from Sailor Moon Crystal was written by Revo, the man behind both bands' composition and lyrics. He's actually the main vocalist for this song playing the role of "Mär," who is the protagonist of this album.) And Video games (I think right now the only video game credits are for Bravely Default, and Bravely Default II, Bravely Second had a different composer due to scheduling issues) That being said, Märchen, the album this song is from, was released on December 15th, 2010. Predating the debut of the anime AOT by a good 2.5 years. Something that I'm sure other people have pointed out by now is that is song is part of a bigger storyline, with the Single "Ido e Itaru Morie Itaru Ido" being what's basically a Prologue to the songs in Märchen, and you really have to go through every song in order with the accompanying translations (and life performance) to experience the story. Would highly recommend watching the whole thing to anybody who hasn't yet! Even though it's not on YT for copyright reasons, I'm pretty sure it's available on another video sharing platform! If you ever want to react to more of Revo's Music I would highly recommend the following songs (labeled SH for Sound Horizon Releases, and LH for Linked Horizon Releases) SH- Raijin no keifu (Chronicle 2nd) SH- El's Paradise -Side E- (Elysion) SH- Battle of the Dying Heros (Moira) LH- Serpent Devouring the Horizon (Bravely Default) LH- Love's Vagrant (Bravely Default) LH- Eyes that gaze into the nexus (Bravely Default II)

Glad to see you react to a SH song! My favorite album from SH is Moira. I’d love to see your analysis of the album (or really any song from it). My favorite way to watch Moira is to see the live recording because it has both visual context for the songs and subtitles so I can better understand the story.
@Kurogami25 Жыл бұрын
Moira was prolly the only album that most of the songs are about the main plot (others would have several side plots) too bad that they had to cut lots of plot due to the 80 min length

You reacted to sound horizon!? How did I miss this haha. Sound horizon is best experienced by understanding the lyrics and seeing the live performances. Revo is a good storyteller through his musics. He was also my main reason to watch AOT in the first place haha. Edit: AOT's shinzou no sasageyo opening has melody similar to one of sound horizon's song. A nice surprise for SH fans!

The only consistent member in both sound horizon and linked horizon is REVO, who is the founder of both bands and also the composer, lyricist, and producer for almost 90% of his works. Sound horizon is "parent" in the sense that it's REVO's main band until he decided to collaborate with square enix for bravely default, which he debut the OST album under the new moniker, linked horizon, and continue to do so for collaboration till this day. However, he did collaborated with other games and anime, like gunslinger girls and a couple of MMORPG, under sound horizon as well, mostly before ROMAN, his 5th album. In short, songs from sound horizon sound extremely similar to linked horizon because they are all written, composed, and arranged by the same guy.
