Love the shortness of this compared to other themes, when you consider what the song's about; everyone else's themes are about their trauma, issues, the bad times and generally trying to overcome their struggles. Gender identity, unrequited love, past mistakes, questioning existence, etc etc.......and then this theme comes in, jazzy and happy, just screaming 'Life's good, what a gas 🎉😃!'

This came out literally today, the latest DLC character, yet another one returning from the older games. Funny thing about this song is it takes the title of the shortest character theme in Strive now. Only 2 other songs on the OST even go below 4 minutes. Some people are disappointed there isn't more but I think the theme more than does its job, and being short and straightforward seems pretty fitting for Slayers carefree, nonchalant attitude. Slayer is a dandy vampire, and the original creator of the assasins guild, with noble intentions, but soon he saw the guild devolve into criminal activity so he left out of disgust. His strength is comical, it's hilarious how powerful he is. He can uppercut someone so hard that their body exits the milky way galaxy in seconds. He holds back massively 99% of the time but the strength he does exert is still tremendous compared to the rest of the cast. He loves finding people who can push him to his limit, and he's also very giving with praise for anyone who can impress him at all. His wifes name is Sharon and she's kind of just, immune to damage? Sort of? I think specifically she might be immune to consequence/continuity, due to her messed up universal ID, but that's kinda just speculation. Either way Slayer can suck her dry of blood until she's just a bag of skin and she'll be fine a moment later. Their relationship is super cute, they both love teatime and haiku. Ups and Downs lyrics are largely just his outlook on life after living so long. He's not quite as jaded as other immortal beings, and he urges living in the moment, not worrying too hard about where you're headed. Just do your best and you'll get where you're going, no need to rush. That one verse about the platinum knife and whatnot I think might be him telling about an assassination he committed? I think Orangeys lyrics are a bit incorrect in that section also, I think CapnBookers lyric video is more accurate, but we'll have to see if Naoki decides to share the official lyrics again.
@_map2175 ай бұрын
I think the lyrics in the platinum knife part are talking about how an old friend of his had no enjoyment in life despite having a lot of valuable things. Matches the sentiment brought forward in the "surrounded by precious things, the heart turns into stone" lines. Just more of a reinforcement on how slayer believes living in the moment is the most important thing to enjoying life. Basing this on the capnbookers video myself since I feel those lyrics are a bit more accurate as well. Obviously, this is up to interpretation between people and also could change once we have the official lyrics.

In universe, Slayer is a vampire and is a retired leader of the Assassin's Guild, enjoying his retirement by spending time with his wife and writing poetry (how good his poetry is is up for debate). He is one of the most powerful characters in the story, and can (relatively) easily beat anyone in a fight, but he enjoys giving people a chance by purposefully holding back. His theme works so well for him. There's this smooth cool jazz throughout it all, but there's this power that's consistently just there, sometimes under the surface but it also just rises to the top at moments too.
