The game is literally about a clash of musical genres and artists. Each VS piece is a fight the protagonists have against an artist, and each piece is tailored around their story, style and instruments. They are dynamic tracks, and there are multiple versions of each that interchagnge mid-fight in gameplay. Not only that, but characters actually perform soloes when activating certain skills in game, and depending on which character you are using the drummer or the guitarist, they solo on the spot throughout the song no matter what spot in the song you are at, that's because there's tracks of SONG LONG soloes recorded by live musicians too that dynamicly play as you play! it's an amazing ost to check out!

For my money, the most underrated game soundtrack of the last decade. Def worth checking out the other boss tracks since each one is completely different.

NSR is one of those absolutely amazing hidden gem games. It has it's issues, but it oozes so much charm and has a very psychonauts feels to it. Also I just want to geek out for a moment on how the boss fights are. Basically every boss has 5 songs playing at once. Theres the bosses normal song, the EDM heavy version, the rock heavy version, guitar solo version, and drum solo version. Only one plas at a time, but depending on what the context is they will subtly and seamlessly transition between each other since they are all constantly playing. The fights really do feel like a fight for music with how dynamic they are. Personally my favorite track has to Yinu's, but Tatiana's is a close second.

The guitar and drums are real (at least for the boss battles, unsure of the more lax downtime songs); the drummer is Bruno Valverde and the guitarist is Midori Tatematsu.

This game is a hidden gem offering the most well planned and amazingly executed OST in a video game i have ever seen. Like all the artists who worked on the entire soundtrack really did some amazing work. Fun fact about the company who made this game metronomic. They're founded by some of the original music producers who worked with Square enix and made the music for FFXII & XIII Like these guys made a game that came from the heart and I honestly believe you should play it, and then revisit the OST to here how they use music to do setting and storytelling

Yessss, I ADORE the music in this game so much! Edit: you asked what the game was about; It's about the story of a city named Vinyl City that is powered by Quasa (energy converted from music). The city is governed by a label company named No Straight Roads, a corrupt EDM label whose goal is to monopolize the music industry and continue their control of the city and maintain order. You play as/follow the story of two indie rock band members of the band "Bunk Bed Junction", who got rejected from the auditions to provide energy to the city due to playing Rock and not EDM - thus they take on the journey to fight the corrupt goverment with ROCK. The game is SUPER neat in terms of it being a rhythm game, because the tracks start out as EDM and when you're fighting really well in the boss fights, it seamlessly transitions into a rock cover of the boss songs. Also the guitarist and drummer have like WHOLE solo recordings that you maybe only hear like 3 seconds of during a battle but they pop OFF if you do manage to sit there and listen to it. I highly recommend checking out other music from this game.

What's interesting about No Straight Roads is that almost every track has a rock and an EDM version, which changes depending on how well you're doing, fitting with the conflict between the two music genres in the game. Personally, I kinda prefer Tatiana's EDM theme better. Both versions are absolute bangers though.

I /HIGHLY/ recommend the Drum versions of the songs itself (there's an isolated Guitar and Drum solo for the two main characters for every song and I highly recommend all of them, specifically vs EVE's due to its story)

While I do appreciate this version, I still prefer the Vs. Tatiana all phases. Having played the game multiple the times, it really, captures the essence of what's at stake for this boss. And unfortunately, I can't seem to grasp it as I would with this version.

The story is really bland and "for the checkmark", like what you'd see in most disney cartoons, it's rough around the edges with it's gameplay and polish of some visual stuff, but the music is absolutely worth it.
