Nirvana are easy to play, hard to nail. Singing them with the right vibe is also pretty fucking hard, but since the world is full of half assed musicians who can't play for shit, they usually end up starting with Nirvana since they are extremely linear from a technical standpoint. Benjamin kennedy Yes there is. It makes the singing sound way worse than normally, because the mic catches voices from all sides of the mic. This makes the singing sound a lot more bland and proves that the person... Just can't sing loud enough and compensates that by cupping the mic.

I'm not sure about that particular example, but there is a style of playing scales and notes known as atonal(meaning it has no particular key it's centered around.) New York band Pyrrhon is pretty good at this style. it takes just as much knowledge of the fretboard to write and is just as hard as 'normal' music to recreate night after night.

People describe the scales they use as "non-freudian" or something like that. Their studio footage and playthroughs are worth a watch, but their albums sound hideous to me TBH.
