It's quite amazing to me that this is news. But I'm glad it's out there.

Growing up can remember the family record player in the background with Beethoven & Mozart. But there was a disconnect between playing music & academic achievements. If we want higher marks, just spend more hours studying to the point of memorizing textbooks from cover to cover. Coming from a non-musical family, the parents don't see the benefits of music education alongside your academic one. The science is nothing new. The big turn-off for traditional lessons is too much focus on the technical aspects of playing like academic exercises. For any child to stick with an instrument for at least a year, parents & teachers need to make playing fun & enjoyable. We all want to have positive childhood experiences that will stay with us into adulthood. 1 popular method of teaching is Suzuki from Japan getting kids to learn songs before reading music. The founder Shinichi Suzuki assumed every kid has the gift of music. With the right approach & motivation we can all succeed...

why only focus on kids? how about encouraging people of all ages to begin studying music for their brains, for self expression, for emotional release, for the music teachers, for the instrument makers and repairmen and to create a more musical, creative society of greater awareness, appreciation, and contribution in the arts. It seems like once you pass 21 and you are not demonstrable prodigy then you are forced to give up on arts and i do not think that is good.
