It's still happening. Look at how they copied a cult Pakistani song Sayonee by Junoon. They turned a beautiful Sufi rock song to a cheesy romantic crap and gave it to Arijit Singh. That song was a cult classic in Pakistan and it hurt my soul to see it disrespected like that. The fact that Indian audiences have so little respect for original artists that they watched that song and gave it views shows why there is a dearth of original music today in Bollywood. You can't just rip off someone's work and turn devotional music originally sung by a man who was called the original rockstar of South Asia and turn it into a dumb down, inferior version. Coke Studio Pakistan produced a song in its latest season last year named "Har funn mola", it took 3 to 4 months for an Indian label to copy the title lyrics and turn an another amazing Sufi rock song into a trashy item number because they know this is the kind of music most Indian do listen to. One of the most well loved songs of Coke Studio Pakistan is 'jugni' sung by Arif Lohar, a legendary Pakistani singer. They copied the entire song and used it for the film Cocktail. This is extremely disrespectful. Art for an artist is like their baby and to steal it, hollow it out of all its cultural, Sufi or folk impressions, make the language less poetic. and reduce it to something corny and cheesy and get views and appreciation for that is the most disrespected they can be made to feel which Bollywood musicians and songwriters routinely do.
