Motown of the past would've had the patience since back then labels actually understood that artists were to be developed. Ever since the bean counters took over, they now look for instant gratification (i.e. can the artist make hits right this instance). Artists like Earth, Wind, and Fire (whose sound that's associated with them started formulating in their 4th or 5th album) and a plethora of others from the past wouldn't have been able to drop the classics they dropped had labels back in the day been in the same impatient mindset as they are in today.

The “mini-bridge” between chorus and verses-and specifically the drum fills-are definitely the highlight. A close second are APs lyrics and delivery during verse. Super fun all the way around. Bonus points for keeping it classy with the ladies. They all look like wife material.

You're a bonafide producer alright. The things you hear are the kinda things we raved about when this kind of music was the norm. I don't hear too many other reactions go at it like this. And you can probably guess I listened to a LOT of them cuz this is the style of my late teens. Love your ears man!

Thee reverb on the bridge when Mars says Lalala it reminds me of mid to late 70s music, particularly Minnie Ripperton's Come to My Garden and the production there. Its sooooo 70s

The fact you picked up on the glockenspiel and the little piano runs and the bass slide at 5:22... You don't know how happy that made me! I LOVE dissecting songs and hearing every single part, and it's these little inflections that really complete a song. Some people don't even notice them but subconsciously they are grooving to it and may not realise! Fantastic musical breakdown of this!

I like your take on it. I have observed many reactions to this song. I am a 61 yr. old working musician. I grew up with the music of this content. I hear a lot of stuff going on here. The setting gives it a more vintage appeal than the actuals. The arranging is very indicative of the 70’s era but I consider this new and fresh because we need feel-good music and not all this anger-filled stuff floating around. Also, the vocals in this are more a-kin to the OHIO PLAYERS style (Example: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIuuiKOKpsZlnJY ) not the arrangement just the harmonies and vocal approach on this (refined of course…LOL), analog reverb and all even on instruments and a singing drummer! Both these performers and in the top of music right now...let's keep it going!

This song has a 70’s jive to it, brought into to 2021. It’s a sick, mixture of today’s music with a touch of 70’s R&B. Very well done. This is definitely an award winning song. Anything love songs related, is a hit. You just don’t hear them anymore like in the 70’s and 80’s.

Fanboy away! I felt like I've heard every chord and every "Girl" and every shift back in the 60's, 70's. So I had to go listen to a few hours of classics, of Temptations v. Four Tops medley dance-offs and swoon. I'm old, but these guys are the bomb, old and new, full of flirty fun. I watched saw a couple of song reactors spellbound, staring like they were getting messages from the gang to come through the screen. So simple, so busy, so silky, so innocent, so seductive!

They hit the books and studied the instruments and how they were set up in the 70's to recreate the sound. They used the skins the drummers used on 70's R&B tracks and even used the same type of bass strings. They showed the difference in playing music from 70's and actually recreating the music of that period.
