Yes, they sing live. They do use backtracks if the songs have a lot of choreo so that they rest during the chorus parts. Also they use backtracks to enhance vocal harmonizing. But they also sing songs without using backtracks. And the monster and wolf performance are live vocals. Please react to EXO really said: "No mic? EXO trained on thread mills in order to maintain the studio type voice quality. As well wear heavy clothing in order to keep their bodies accustomed to heavy dancing while singing when they have to wear uncomfortable custumes. You could watch their Acoustic session in Seoul to check their live vocals. These guys really trained well to be able to pull off a show that could match their stage production.

EXO actually are singing live, that’s why they are called as the vocal kings! Their concerts are amazing, that’s why they are on Guiness book as the fastest sold out tickets. In this EXO performance, "Mama" is not MAMA -- MNet Asian Music Awards -- "Mama" is the title of EXO's debut song and it's the first song you hear them perform in this set of songs during their almost 3 hour concert. Mama is a Korean term they use to address a leader or king or queen. It's a term of reverence and respect. It's similar to saying "Your majesty." If you watch very many historical Korean dramas you will hear the characters call the royal family, and especially the head of the royal family or leader, "Mama." So, in this song, they are speaking to the leader or deity who sent them to Earth, essentially asking, "Now that I'm here, Your Majesty what should I do? How do I fulfill what you have sent me to do?" etc. Fun fact: The majority of the choreography for "Monster" has to do with the EXO members using their powers. If you haven't yet, check out their dance practice video for "Monster" to see the dance even better. In the "Monster" choreography, the X they make to represent EXO is only the beginning of the story. For example, D.O. has the power of super strength, so during his part in the song and choreography you will see that he waves his hands and the other members are pushed away from him or pulled toward him. When you see Suho in the middle of the group and they have a hold of his arms, he rotates his body around like swirling water because Suho has the power to control water. Xiumin has the power to control snow/ice/frost, so during one part of the choreography you will see that each of the members pause as if frozen as he moves in front of them. You see Kai slide backward and forward into the center of the group while waving his arms to represent him teleporting. And when Chanyeol jumps over Lay, Sehun and Xiumin, this could be him using his phoenix fire wings to fly, or it could be showing him leaping over flames. Sehun has the power to control wind, so during his parts, you will see the other members shuffle around him as if they are creating a windstorm. And the part where they are sitting on the ground is supposed to represent a sundial -- EXO gets their power from the eclipse and their powers are affected by planetary and solar phenomenon, so the sundial is meant to represent the passing of time and their connection to the sun. The concert version of "Wolf" is the remix version, so only the beginning and end of this performance is what you will see and hear in their "Wolf" MV -- the middle part, where it slows down, is new, but the hype part at the beginning and end is exactly how the original song sounds. Often, the performance and choreography for their songs in concert is different than the original because they put a different twist on it every time they perform it. The moving siluet you saw them create in their "Wolf" performance is supposed to represent the Tree of Life. Which is a visual connection between the storyline in "Mama" and the story in "Wolf". In the MV for "Wolf" you will see they create two separate trees (or one tree that is split in two) because the MV is when they still have 12 members. EXO-K (Korean) was one half of the tree and EXO-M (Mandarin Chinese) was the other half. However, as you saw in the concert performance, they don't split up into the two separate trees any more because now there are only 9 members. After the 3 Chinese members left, they now do everything together, so there is only one tree. This concert was in 2016 and Kris, Luhan and Tao left in 2014/2015. In "Wolf" the members are supposed to be a wolf pack. So the choreography and the song is about them acting like wolves. The choreography was created to use movements that made them seem like wolves, and the moves, such as them showing their claws and bristling their backs and shaking are all things that wolves do as they compete for power and attention, etc. The wolf comes out of the forest (as he scratches the ground behind the Tree of Life) and he is stalking his prey. Their prey is the girl that, in the song, they are talking about being so obsessed with and in love with that they can't help but act like a wolf and capture her so that no one else can have her, etc. In EXO's songs and MVs it is often thought that the girl that EXO sings about is a manifestation of the heart of the Tree of Life. So, that is why EXO becomes so enamored by her and so possessive and protective of her, etc. Protecting the heart of the Tree of Life -- or "the girl" -- is what EXO has been sent to Earth to do. How I interpret the part where Kai Xs out the tree, is that EXO are searching for the Tree of Life and Kai has eliminated that tree from their search. It's not the tree they want, so they get rid of it. In the intro to their debut "Mama" MVs, which sets up EXO's whole storyline and explains the group's concept, the narrator talks about how the Tree of Life has been split in two and each half has been hidden away. It's EXO's job to find the two halves of the Tree of Life and reunite them to restore peace in the world. So in their live performance, that is what they are doing. They are searching for the real Tree of Life. The shadows that they dance with also could have something to do with their X-EXO clones, which was later introduced in their "Obsession" MV in 2019. If there shadows are X-EXO, this could explain why we see them fighting with, and eventually eliminating, their other selves. Therefore, in this performance this could be a foreshadowing of events in their storyline that only begins to make sense as the story evolves and SM reveals more details in the future, etc. Which is why we say, if you want to really follow EXO's storyline you have to pay attention to everything EXO does and you have to try and remember everything you have ever seen and heard from them, because the story may not make sense at the moment, but it could be important in the future to help explain something else that is happening in EXO's storyline. And, at the end, I don't necessarily think Kai is breathing heavy because he is tired. I actually think he is still in character. He has that brooding expression on his face and he is breathing heavy because he is acting like a wolf. Although I am sure the members are tired after that performances, you would be surprised how well they are able to recover. In reality, if you saw them interacting with the audience right after that performance you would probably be surprised at how they don't look or sound out of breath or tired. They have trained their whole career by doing cardio exercises while singing at the same time, in order to build endurance and stamina, so they are able to sing live while dancing this intently and not use up their energy. And if you check out some of their dance practices, you will often see them wearing a lot of layers because it helps build endurance and it conditions their bodies to be able to dance on stage with their stage outfits and not be affected. Why it looks so effortless on stage and like they hardly even exert themselves sometimes, is because their body has become used to being dressed in layers while working hard while wearing heavy boots, etc. It's kind of like if you spend a lot of time in a sauna, after a while your body gets used to the heat and you can endure more heat for longer. It's no surprise that you are impressed by everyone's vocals and dancing because, as SM artists, that is just something the company is known for. As you may know, SM is considered the vocal powerhouse of the industry. You literally can't be an SM artist without having amazing vocals and dance skills, even SM's rappers get intense vocal training, so all of SM's artists are some of the best singers in the industry. And EXO are the perfect example of that. Just imagine, that was only one set from a concert where they performed somewhere around 20 to 30 songs. So, if you think that performance was amazing, keep in mind, after this they only took about a 5 minute break to get ready for the next set of songs and change outfits, etc. What Baekhyun screams in the middle of "Wolf " is "Tokyo Dome," which is where this EXO PLANET #3 - The EXO'rDIUM(dot) in Japan world tour concert is being held. The Tokyo Dome is one of the largest concert venues in Japan, which holds 55,000 people, and there is an unwritten rule that in order to get permission to hold an event there you have to be able to fill it to capacity. EXO are such big-name artists that they have no problem selling out within seconds of tickets going on sale -- they literally hold the record for selling out concerts in 0.2 seconds -- and they usually have to have multiple day events in order to accommodate the number of fans who want to attend.

EXO = EXtraOrdinary. This is just one of EXO's epic performances. This was their opening at Exoplanet #3 (The Exo'rdium), w/c won the Best Concert award at the 2017 EDaily Culture Awards. If you can, try to watch the whole show, it's incredible. Yes, these 3 songs are all remix (probably for concert purposes) but definitely no lip-sync. EXO do not lip-sync during live perf. Logically, they would during pre-recording stages or dance practices. If you will listen closely sometimes you will hear cracked voice or maybe a forgotten line, & they'll end up laughing. Sm artists get trained to sing on treadmill, while jogging or running etc..they go through very hard training to get that stable vocal. They use backtrack sometimes but u can tell where backtrack is playing as they dont sing those part and the sound is kept a bit lower than their mic. Here the performance is Def live vocals

Love your reaction!! EXO always sing live on their concert stages. Sometime they have back tracks on some music show but that is because their songs have multiple harmonization and it will be hard for 1 member to sing his part while also having is own back vocal. EXO is known to be the best in singing live which is why they are titled as THE VOCAL KINGS!! They were trained to sing while using the threadmills so the breathing won’t be an issue to them. Most of them are also theatrical performers so they are really used to singing live without breaks. They are the true definition of the joke “EXO eats their cd”. I have been to lots of kpop concerts and I can attest how they have the best concert stages among all. No wonder they won THE BEST CONCERT AWARD and still the holder of the title as THE WORLD’S FASTEST SOLD OUT CONCERT in just 0.2 seconds. EXO is really insanely amazing artists. This set is the legendary intro to their concert, EXO Planet #3 - The EXO'rDIUM. EXO concerts lasts from 2-3 hours where they sing around 30-35 songs, divided into sets. MAMA is EXO's debut track. They released 2 pre-debut tracks, WHAT IS LOVE and HISTORY, which I hope you could react to also. You better believe it that EXO SINGS LIVE 'cause THEY JUST CAN!! They truly are world class performers. SM Entertainment is well known in the K-Pop industry for their very rigorous training of their artists for endurance, stamina and vocal stability. That's why in spite the difficult choreographies their vocals remain stable. Please check out the b-side of their discography. That's where the real goldmine lies.

this isn't at MAMA haha its EXO's concert. MAMA is the name of their debut song. Also it got blocked because you did the japan version! if you react to their live concerts in seoul, it wont get blocked :) and there is a backing track of course, mostly during the choruses, but they are singing the whole way over it. They are called Vocal King in the industry, but when they have labelled themselves, they say they are a Performance group rather than a vocal group. Now you know why. Yes they are live, yes they are that good, yes they can deliver complex choreography while delivering complex vocals. They are very talented and also extremely dedicated and hard working. They also love performing. Yep, to me, the best Kpop group ever. I loved the original Wolf and still do, it's one of my favourites, but this one is a remix and it is, in my opinion, even better. Mama and monster are also favourites. Mama was their debut and it really threw down the gauntlet - there was not nor has been another song quite like it that I have heard. It was awesome when it was released and still is.

For us fans, it is easy to know it is live singing, to be more specific - D.O. one of the main vocalists changed how he deliver some of his lines and also the song itself - in a concert there is always what we called "add-in" or things they do differently compared to the studio version. Oh , no no , EXO never lipsync in their own concert . I know ,You understand that , as idols they need to give rest to their vocal so they lipsync in music shows(during promotion only) here n there (not regularly though) , but EXO's main vocal known to sing even in MV shooting(yes they even belt high notes during MV shooting ) , those 3 never rest , otherwise in award shows( which exo don't go for years), Concert and music festivals exo never lipsync. This is Wolf's remix ver , but original Wolf is also crazy like this , Actually the dance break was done by EXO's main vocal not main dancer , and in Wolf's last part , Baekhyun's note was off for a sec but he managed that in next sec which proof that they were singing live.

This is MAMA+ Monster+Wolf . Mama is their debut song and wolf is the remix done for the performance which is the beginning of a 3h concert. They are singing live! I always loved the studio version of Wolf but the remix, with that ChenBaek bridge, skyrocketed and surpassed the studio version! Love that you loved Wolf even before they got to the best parts. Unfortunately for you the original version is different, they really amped it up for the EXOrDIUM concert tour, and even added new lines to it (for Chen and Baekhyun). It was a little ahead of its time when they first released it, I think. Many fans don’t like the MV, but everyone loves this stage version. Silver lining is that you can find their live album from this tour on Spotify 👍 And like some has explained, this wasn’t from Mama awards, but their debut song from 2012. That being said, all of their performances at Mama are epic though, so you should definitely check them out later 😉

Mystic Kpop has several reactions where she separates the audience noise, the instrumentals, and actual vocals . At a live concert. They are truly singing, not lip syncing! You can also find sites where their voices cracked, they forgot their lines, or they added or adlibbed to fit the occasion.

This is actually not MNET MAMA performance if that's what you're referring to, this is their own concert, the Exo Planet #3 called EXO'rdium. They always go and beyond for their tours. The last one was Exo Planet #5 EXplOration. We can give you list of some of their iconic performances 2. The first song (the one where you mentioned was an Intro), is actually their actual debut song (2012) called MAMA, though this one is remixed, but the actual song was hella epic too, and people opined it was one of the strongest KPOP debut song. You should check it out if you want 3. Last song, Wolf, is also remixed for this concert purposes. Wolf is the title track for their 1st full length album (called XOXO, released 2013). It was an experimental song, some people like it, some people hate it. But personally I came to appreciate this song very much 4. For their vocals, of course there are backing tracks. But they always sings LIVE and slayed, hence the KPOP Vocal King title And agreed with you, they are one true performer. Have never seen any performance that could top them, even from other groups that are on top of the charts. Agree. One of the reasons they are labelled as Kings of Kpop. No other groups out there as stellar as EXO. Other group who are monster in live performance are TVXQ and Super Junior, EXO's seniors of the same label SM. The thing is, their company is known to have the best if not the best vocals in Kpop. They are singing live they've been releasing live concert albums since their first concert all available on Spotify you can even hear their laughter when they thought they couldnt be heard and member forgot some lyrics. The reason they sounded better live is bec they do not change any note to hit it right while performing live. They hit it right be it live o recorded they are trained to do that and the adlibs make the song sound even better. One of main vocals said they were taught some techniques. Their mic is on and they have to control their breathing so it couldnt be heard and for main vocals it's harder coz they are the ones assigned to hit high notes. While waiting for their part they also prepare their vocals so they hit it right.

EXO sing live, they have a backing track only at tv shows where it's important not to screw up a second, at concerts they let their voices go off and concert versions are always more interesting and have a "volume", next to them studio version seems a bit flat. EXO train to sing while on treadmills to be able to keep stable vocals during active dancing. That's why they are Vocal Kings of Kpop! All 9 of them have beautiful voices, very prominent and with individual colors. They always add a twist to the songs in a concert so that it's almost unrecognizable from the studio version. That's why they're the only group I'd go to see live, every live performance is an experience, they never repeat, if it's not a promo period for tv. EXO songs are usually multilayered, in music and voices. As they have all types of voices, from high to low and from clean and clear to velvety, almost "scratchy", they can perform any genre with ease, they have the whole package. I highly advise watching EXO Acoustic Medley (in white shirts) and with time EXO group guide and individual guides by Cesar Oh, then you'll be able to understand hidden signs in MVs and choreo, I can tell you from experience, listening to same songs knowing all the members is totally different, takes it to another level

Go watch their concert next time for making it sure, you won't believe coz how f"cking good they were.. very-TOP-Tier group ever! The opening that's not live, When monster start all this performance was totally live.. First of all thank you so much for some more EXO reactions 🧡🧡🧡 especially now that you'll be venturing into the lives, I'm super excited!! Just be careful for any of them being from Japan cuz they do tend to get blocked. And YES, EXO ALWAYS SINGS LIVE. They're one of the few who are able to do so, that's why they're known as the VOCAL KINGS OF KPOP. They don't lip sync, many ppl just like to hate on them no matter what. And yes it must be hard to not sing on lives but still perform however it's even harder to actually sing everything for hours on end & still bring it all to the stage. EXO are trained to be the best vocalists & performers no matter what so they always decide to sing everything live even when they are sick, exhausted & tired to the core. It sucks to see them like that but they still do it, so we have to appreciate what they do. MAMA is actually their DEBUT SONG in 2012. If u haven't watched the MV yet, u are really missing out. Also, for concerts, sometimes, they remix their songs. So this ROCK version of MAMA is actually a remix version. Please check out their MAMA MV. There u can see the evolution of EXO. There is a whole length explanation of how these "aliens" came to be~ It's PRETTY COOL!!! I promise~ Also, EXO DOES NOT LIP-SYNC. periodt. IN THIS CONCERT, u can REALLY HEAR their vocals.
