Despite my best efforts, I continuously check the fridge to see if any food has magically appeared out of nowhere. And I do this for no reason. It's not a pro way to live life. But a lot of music producers compress for no reason. They just do it to do it. This is also not pro. So let's put an end to that by truly grasping what compression is and why we compress to begin with

thank you so much for using simple waveforms with animating the controls for threshold and ratio. This helps everything theoretically constructive I've learned about compression actually come together with a visual/aural logic gate as to whether or not it's even necessary on any given signal. Now time to go clean up my projects...

It's wild to me, because the example take at 0:43 sounds much better uncompressed, to my ears, than the compressed version does. EDIT: love this, I didn't know I had watched and commented on this video before, but apparently I did, and had the same opinion. Good to see how "consistent" my opinion is, perhaps I've been compressed. ;)

You can compress with colour...cause it's an RGB vector...up to 255 on each value...layer the images into a unique colour...then have pixels at the bottom to denote number of layers ...and you can actually compress the image...

So, Compression makes sounds in a beat more... FuLl? I'm going solely off the compariosons, as I got no clue what the hell you're talking about ( I only did AP Music Theory in High School back in 2013). The compressed version of the comparisons sounded more "full/complete" to me than the uncompressed version. It's hard to explain what I've heard, as I'm new to making beats. There's a bit of a learning curve FOR ME when it comes to going from knowing only BAND CLASS related things to DAW related things. As I go through FL Studio, I'm realizing that I'm just randomly sliding things/clicking on Plugins to find a sound I can work with. Maybe it's just me?

0:59 - who said it didn't sound fine the way it was? I mean, it's one thing to use compression for a specific purpose, another to think everything needs it.... I don't know, maybe I don't "get it" yet. Music's dynamic range can be used to express emotion, etc. After watching this, I still don't understand why people feel the need to use it. I understand what it is, but........ whatever. :)

hate that! i rather HEAR the music as it was produced, NOT what you, or anyone, thinks i want to hear. Dynamic range IS music for gods sake!
@guidoheuts2 жыл бұрын
I still don't see any valid use for compression at all. Dynamic range is a blessing, it ads life to any sound we or any instrument produces. So why take that away or try to control it?
@Hyperbits2 жыл бұрын
Small amounts are great for commercial loudness and translatability across sound systems that can't handle greater dynamic range well. But we agree in general it's not needed at extreme levels!
@spellingchampeon8 ай бұрын
So basically compression makes things less interesting
@_JTC3573 ай бұрын
Not necessarily. You could use compression with a high threshold and high ratio to sidechain your audio to a loud kick drum

@johnsanders1530Ай бұрын
Educate yourself. Compression is essential. It’s only bad if you don’t know how to use it. If you like to listen to music on your phone or other small speakers and be able to hear everything, thank compression. If you want mixes to sound massive and exciting, thank compression. You listen to compression on every modern track you hear. If it’s done well, you didn’t even notice. If it’s not done well, it’s St. Anger by Metallica.
@madisonthompson898423 күн бұрын
Quite the opposite! Look up how daft punk uses side chain compression

At the end of the day, if your song is sh*t, your song will be sh*t. No matter how many clever things you do to it. Led Zeppelin's effects and sound engineering was prehistoric by comparison, and people STILL love their stuff. Anywho, back to trying to polish my turd song.
