It's a song about the war of a relationship break-up. IAN MOSS, the lead singer in this song, does a wonderful cover of the classic American song, 'Georgia." also at this concert. I'm still waiting for your reaction to Jimmy Barnes (the support singer in this song ) and JOHN FARNHAM singing, 'When Something Is wrong with my Baby", at the ARIA awards, LIVE. You'll be blown away !

The humble little man with the shakers is the brilliance behind this song, drummer Steve Prestwich. He wrote it along with a few other Chisel classics. Sadly he was taken from us suddenly in 2011, a brain tumour. I was preparing to upload a tribute for him by 16 January (the day he passed) but I’ve been hit with Covid so it is going to go up late but it will happen!! ❤❤

Oh no! So sorry that you have Covid. Sending healing thoughts your way, all the way from WA. Sit back, relax and put your feet up until you are well again. I'll be waiting for your uploads, but you need to get better first ❤❤ PS have you seen the song where Steve sings? It's called All I wanna do...

Cold Chisel benefited from having two oustanding singers: Lead guitarist Ian Moss, who has a very bluesy voice; and lead singer Jimmy Barnes, who is more rock n' roll and soul. "Chisel" also contained one of Australia's most highly regarded songwriters in keyboardist Don Walker. This wasn't one of his songs. Cold Chisel forged their reputation in the same tough "pub rock" scene as their contemporaries AC/DC. Chisel's cover of "Wild Thing" gives you a sense of that (it's very "full-on").

The other guy was Jimmy Barnes. When jimmy became a solo artist his band continued on under the name of Cold Chisel. Moss and Jimmy are good friends. Moss was sitting on the chair.

The band actually broke up completely and ceased performing in late 1983. They reformed in the late 90s with the release of The Last Wave of Summer album, and all band members have continued to have solo careers and been involved in other projects but Cold Chisel has never performed without any of its living members taking part.

I think insisting on live Cold Chisel is fine for particular songs. For one, I believe Cold Chisel - Wild Thing (Last Stand) should be watched. However, I think studio versions of the band's hits should be checked out before listening to live versions. I've dropped a list of the best quality Cold Chisel clips of the band's studio efforts. You both know The Troggs' song 'Wild Thing'. Check out Cold Chisel's live 1983 version. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bouZg52Lnpilo6c

It can also be interpreted as someone hoping for the end of relationship problems. When the war is over (when the fighting/arguments end), gonna start again (rebuild the relationship). Still so young but somehow so much older (young lovers learning quickly about dealing with their differences). How can I go home and not get blown away (how can I walk away from this and live with the consequences of leaving a good thing). Try to hold a trace of what it was back then (hold on to the feelings at the start of the relationship). Songs are so often metaphorical and designed to be interpreted in different ways.
@G.H.O.S.T.2549 ай бұрын
"How can I go home and not get blown away" I always interpreted that as how can I go home and not walk into an abrupt angry screaming match with her.
@jamussmyth16129 ай бұрын
That’s bullshit. It’s about a returned serviceman.
@G.H.O.S.T.2549 ай бұрын
@@jamussmyth1612 I at first thought that, then i wondered why he is singing about someone stealing his heart away. That doesnt sound like someone talking about coming back from a war zone.
@jamussmyth16129 ай бұрын
@@G.H.O.S.T.254 Soldiers often wrote in their memoirs about this. I’d suggest you Google WW2 stories. You will then understand what “stealing HIS heart away” means. Not “her”, just “him”. Comrades in arms. When you go through the most brutal shit imaginable, bayoneting human beings, constant shelling and mud deep squalor. “We were young, but somehow so much older” doesn’t sound like a love song. Nor does “how can I go home, and not get blown away”. They are talking about no one understanding what happened to them. Only their mates. It’s NOT about a “relationship”.
@G.H.O.S.T.2549 ай бұрын
@@jamussmyth1612 interesting, cheers ill look it up. Wasnt aware of that. Also never thought it was a love song, but rather always interpreted it as about a Toxic relationship and painfully fighting their way to get the hell out of dodge.

I always preferred earlier versions of the song from the 80s. This is kind of accoustic and musically not as full sounding as the 80s versions. A lot of people like this version recorded in 2003 but it lacks sonething IMO. Barnsey is standing, Ian Moss is sitting down playing guitar.

The war is a relationship break up. Another good ballad from Cold Chisel is Janelle.

Good reaction. Most Aussie artists usually really shine when doing a live concert. It's to do with the Aussie music scene. So whenever you're doing an Aussie act, you usually can't go wrong with doing a live performance. Ian Moss (the first lead singer in this song) and Jimmy Barnes (the second lead) both are highlighted here (and both have their own solo careers).

Thanks for the honest reaction. Yes, again you have the right video. I tend to agree with your comments about the second part of the song - I put it down to the "3-minute single" phenomenon. Now you've reacted to the more mature Chisel doing "When the War is Over" and "Bow River" you really should react to the younger Chisel doing "Wild Thing" (Last Stand) live. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bouZg52Lnpilo6c It's from 1983 and is an excellent example of their earlier shows. They were great. Always. Whether in front of a small pub crowd or in a larger venue they always gave it their all.

The second half probably loses a little in the acoustic interpretation… it might make more sense if you check out the album version. That live version is very emotive though.

Like what you like and never apologise for a genuine opinion . Taking nothing away from the Cold Chisel version of this song, written by their drummer about a failing relationship, do yourselves a favour and watch the live John Farnham version who was hgiven the song to perform by the before mentioned drummer to do with as he saw fit , in my humble opinion it is by far the definitive performance ,sung by Australia's best male vocalist , even if you dont use it for a reaction, watch it for your own sake ,you wont be disappointed . 😂
