Chris took a lot of flack for wearing his hat in church. Chris ( cowboy hat ) and Adam started the group with 3 other guys when they were in college in 2001. Membership changed over the years. They met Rob when the A Capella group Four Shadow he was in broke up in 2008 Tim was in many other groups and was known by reputation. They network him in 2009 as part time bass till 2012 -2013 when he joined full time. Austin they met on a cruise ship when he was working as an in-house singer and Home Free was guest singers in 2012 he joined full time in 2013. Chance Tim knew from the A Capella group Street Corner Symphony where Chance sang bass.When Chris left in 2016 Chance joined.

How they all got together...been formed around 2000. Had various members throughout the years. Started to solidify the present lineup 2009/2011/2014/2016. The baritone wearing the cowboy hat is Chris Rupp, one of the group's founders. Cris Rupp has a KZbin channel wherein as he has a 4-5 part series on the history/makeup/evolution of Home Free.

I love Everything about this. So beautiful! My favorite version. And, seeing and hearing Chris and Adam Rupp standing and singing together is always a pleasure. Thank you for the Home Free reactions. Chris often felt very self conscious without a hat. He had his reasons. I'd rather have him feel comfortable and be able to concentrate on singing than worry. Evidently, the nuns there were fine with it and gave him compliments on his hat choices.

Chris Rupp has a series of videos on his channel called "The History of Home Free" that will give you lots of info about how they all got together. I think this is gorgeous. The bell tones. The waterfall "fall". The harmonies. Yum.

I agree ….Austin’s voice literally gives me chills….he’s just Amazing 👼🎄🔥💗‼️ OK, I do agree too about his hat, but, I have a feeling the whole reason he was wearing it…he was very self conscious about his baldness. If you notice any of the other videos he’s in, he’s wearing a hat.

They are known for switching leads, so with Home Free, you can't always expect one person to lead the whole song because they do sometimes, but it's rare, if you don't care for one lead, just wait for the next. They usually want to keep you guessing by doing things a little differently. I thought the bass singing first added a bit of calming quietness and then also drew attention to the video, then after he sang they changed it up to wow with the bell tones and their high tenor coming in.

It was actually their video for Angels We Have Heard that caused the 'hat in church' ruckus, and it drove the algorithms crazy, got them more views than they had dreamt of for both videos. But hardly anyone complained about the hat in this one. And in the video for Away in the Manger, Chris makes a point of stopping at the church door to remove his hat in a nod to that kerfuffle.

This is a fantastic version of oh holy night!! I love home free! A few years back Chris rep was losing all his hair and had a procedure done to replace it… And I think that’s why he’s wearing a cowboy hat.Besides going the song my first reaction was take your hat off in church… But I can understand right now

Congrats on the 5K! Adam Rupp (beatboxer) is not comfortable singing even though he has a beautiful voice! Chris Rupp (in the hat) founded the group with his brother. They did catch some heat for the hat in church and, the story I heard was he was he wore it because he had gone bald and embarrassed! Love everything they do! Hello from a Texas Home Fry 🤠

My favourite rendition of this hymn. The singing & harmonies are simply terrific and the church is beautiful. As a kid, Austin sometimes traveled and sang with his father's gospel quartet in Georgia, so if it feels like he took you to church . . . In a video Chris Rupp said he was so used to wearing it, he really didn't think of it until all . . heck . .broke those 'cuz of it. However, he said the upside to the flack was that more people watched it.Merry Christmas from Canada.🎄🎄

Anway, as i was saying i love this version by HF. They do the song justice and i cry just about every time I hear it. Would you please check out their njewest ii Ntelease from Pentatonix. Their O Holy Night just came out amd it is pure perfection and pure fire 🔥 . They have really grown as a group and it seems they are more confident in their abilities. I don't know how to explain how much better they are but if it's something in their water, I want some. They have been killing it lately. This new album has been nominated for another Grammy award. I really would like to hear your honest opinions on it. You may not like it and that's ok with me. But then you mqy think it's the best thing you have ever heard and agree with me. Won't know until you react to it. Hahaha! See what I did there? Honestly though..it's the best thing I've heard come out of their mouths ever. Of course that is my opinion. With the hat, they got some flack for it but he had permission from the Sisters at the church. The sisters loved this rendition and forgave the hat.

hehe my new church is a cowboy baptist church. Hat's are not frowned upon there. Most churches, women are allowed to wear hats as well (not saying Chris is a woman ).
