A very keen observation. I love your interpretation of the cloth. There are actually a lot of metaphors in this video, the ocean, the black dress, the cloth, the lamp, the message in a bottle, the lighthouse, the fancy tent, color of her hair, the rocks, the mountain, the sunset and sunrise. Everything represents something. Such poetic lyrically and visually. Truly a masterpiece.

I sort of agree with you, Tyra. Her Dad gave her the protection she needed when younger ...up to a point. somehow, they got separated/ distanced but she is not letting go! Thank you for your reaction. It's a great video!

the dropping of the veil seems to show that she's a woman now, she's not the young girl he used to know. and along with the bird in the sky, it means she wants some freedom in making her own decisions.
Well read, Tyra.....there are many metaphors in this.....and even in the lyric video..the SEAL...the ROCKY SHORE..then in the MV...The LANTERN.....BLACK GOWN....LIGHTHOUSE....even the lil SILKY TEEPEE...like a tent a Dad would make at home.

Apart from the visual production, wich is brilliant, her voice and these lyrics will hit hard close to home for many people around the world. I do believe this is a international song correct? If it is, i expect it to do well. Otherwise it is greatly under apreciated.

Such is the drawing power of this amazing woman, it's the 1st time I have seen reactors react to the lyrics of the song and listen to her vocal at the same time, like you say she is a genius because she draws you in to be able to concentrate on all aspects of the video, the vocal & lyrics, what an unbelievable talent, she co-wrote and co-produced as well as arranged the vocals, so she is very hands on, she's such a perfectionist.

Omg u are right. The song is for her parents. They are not in talking terms. But mori loves them so much. The parents is not ok for mori being independent and they are against to her bf.

The scarf symbolizes as her father because she decided to become independent and up until now Mori keep on reaching out to her father but haven't received any respond from her father. She still loves his father. She originally wrote this song for his father, because she chose a path where her father didn't support with it. Morisette also talk about this, there is a video which she explain about this song. She kept it because she didn't want to let the public know but it came to the point where she herself wanted to let everybody know. And she got emotional talking about this song.

now the song has more meaning to me because of tyra's analysis..it does make sense that the cloth is her dad..when the chorus hits, she wraps it back on her shoulders because she doesn't want to let it/him go..

Wow Tyra, such a great analysis of the cloak meaning. In the opening scene the cloak was floating in the water. A foreshadowing maybe?
I commented on her original video exactly about the symbolism the headscarf. Nice. Here was my original post: Here is what I got out of watching Mori's new video I wrote a few days ago which expands on your idea. Morissette on her own island, alone, lonely, is trying to reach out to somebody important. The search lamp by candlelight on a windy shore is a metaphor for her guiding light helping her navigate through life as she currently knows it. Her guiding light is weak as environmental elements (life) threaten to blow it out, different from the strong inspiration and protection she had from the loved one she thinks she lost. As she's trying to send a message in a bottle to whoever she's trying to reach, there's a lighthouse (a metaphor for a beacon) signifying that she's reaching out, that she's there, waiting and hoping that they don't crash into her shore risking more damage more than what's already been done. Notice she's wearing black with a traditional headscarf and caressing herself as she is pleading to be heard out. Her black outfit goes without saying as it is the colour of grief. She mourns for something lost. The headscarf(a metaphor for modesty) signifies the ethics and values instilled in her by her family upbringing that she holds close and keeps her grounded. She's trying to tell him that at the core, she is the same girl he's always known despite rifts life put ahead of and between them. She's going through a tough time, and she's uncomfortable, and the only thing she can do is pull her scarf to her face and then self-caress to tell herself everything will be okay, clutching to her values as she waits for that loved one's response. Filipinos tend to be conservative and value hard work, humility, and modesty. Still, one of the drawbacks of being in an Asian family is that they also care about optics(reputation) and how an individual's behavior reflects on the family. But to be honest, my personal opinion, in this case, is that sometimes, parents, especially in the father-daughter dynamic, have a hard time when their babies grow up and can't let go. The lyrics in the bridge "What do I do if these nightmares came true; what if i wake up and doubt all that i knew" Here is a strong message to her father. Fathers are the first man daughters fall in love with. They are their first protectors. They are the ones who chase the boogeyman out your closets and they set the bar of what she looks for in a mate. She still wants his protection in a way that his role, though not as prominent as she is grown up still is appreciated. He is her touchstone to the the dangers and what makes sense in the world and so her doubting herself in his absence would have made sense. Notice at the end of the video, she no longer has the headscarf modestly covering her head; instead, it is flowing freely in the wind by her fingertips above her outstretched arms. She takes a deep breath and exhales with a sigh of relief as the sun rises and gives her a new direction. She's decided that she's strong enough to let go of that safety and go on her own. She has permitted herself the freedom to choose between independence and be allowed to make her own mistakes or the security and seemingly suffocating rules that have kept her safe for so long. Hence the foreshadowing of the headscarf floating in the shallow shores at the beginning of the video where she left it. She has grown but still holds onto those values that keeps her grounded and made her into the person she is. Morissette has said her piece and is ready to move on. Mori, you deserve all the success coming your way.

Hi Tyra, you're right. That cloak is a traditional garment for women. Either it was used in churches or for mourning. When I first watched the song, thru your previous reaction, I thought it was just about a breakup. Watching it here, I kinda realized that it looks like about a loss of someone so dear...

After i hear and listen again.. i think this song should get a new touch, it would be better if there is a new version, collaborating with rappers like Ez mills, Rich Bryan or international rappers... there is a little change in the music and cut the music part. ... Morissette - Love U Still (new version)(feat.Ez Mills and Rich Bryan)... I'm sure this new version will be liked by many people!!🎶👍🎧

By far you're one of the top reactors and give some of the best analyses of music! And your audio is top notch, you sound like youre sitting right next to me! Lastly, idk if Filipinas still wear black lace veils during funes or while theyre in mourning, but in my grandmother's generation, it was a thing - that could also be symbolic of the end of her relationship the way that it was w her dad.

Hi Tyra ,I really hope I can help you with those symbolics in the music video. The letter inside the bottle- its the message she wanted to tell to her dad: she loves him so much, she still loves him because he's her father but she can't reach out to him because of the feud they have for the past years. Morisette in black clothes/cloak- represents her emotion which is sad because of what happened to Mori and her family especially to her dad. Light house- this is facing the start in her newlife, this is her in the LIMELIGHT.She is shining and becoming a famous singer. She always looks at it in the video as u can see but still returning to the sea. The Sea - In my opinion this is her father, even though the sea might kill her by drowning she still going and going because she find it peaceful .In other words, she wants to still comeback to her father even though there is a chance that her father will shut the door to her because of madness, cause she still love him and wanted a PEACE between their family's feud. black bird flying in the sky-thats her, seeing herself flying free and high up in the sky (limelight where she was now) Hope you notice my help!Loving your videos. from Manila Philippines!😍❤ edit coz I forgot the meaning of bird😂
