My Dear Albita, I just subscribed after watching your genuine reactions to Marcelito (one of the most gifted singers in the world). I'm afraid I'm about to go on a rather fanatical rant about a musical group I've only just discovered in the last two weeks, and, I would truly love to see your reaction to them. I accidentally ran across them on KZbin. They are a quintet called Home Free. What a musical rabbit hole! They've covered literally everything. Their versions of the classic country standards "Ring of Fire" and "Man of Constant Sorrow" are simply iconic and not to be missed. Then, in a very strange twist for me I'm probably most blown away by their country Chistian renditions of "How Great Thou Art" (which actually makes me cry) and "Amazing Grace". Both of which are equally iconic, the best I've ever heard. Then there is Christmas! Gees, they do "O Holy Night" and "Angel's We Have Heard on High" so well it just makes you want to grin. Then they embrace social justice topics with brilliant instincts in "In the Blood", "Brothers in Arms", and, "Don't Laugh at Me". They also do solo and duo side projects....the lead tenor, Austin Brown's voice is just so angelic/sexy that his leads like "When a Man Loves a Woman, ", as well as his solo endeavors such as "Unchained Melody" (though I still think Bobby Hatfield's can't really be beaten) and "Bring Him Home " are just phenomenal. He has a gloriously gorgeous and diverse array of vocal skills and control. Then, when you think you've heard it all you find Austin and the "second" tenor Rob Lundquist "try" Opera and simply kill "Nessun Dorma", especially Rod (who's voice is also exceptional), who gives a fair tribute to Pavarotti in his tone and timbre. The bass of the group, Tim Foust, is a true basso profundo, going down to a G1 with a 5 octave range above it! One of his side projects "Misty Mountains" contains one of the lowest notes ever achieved by a human (wait till the end). Not to mention the beatboxer, Adam Rupp, who is beyond awesome (a term I dislike, and rarely use, especially when referring to humans) He is a complete percussion section. He has a "Drum Solo" out which is jaw dropping. On top of all that, their musicality and vocal orchestrations are quite literally, sublime. I told you it was going to be a fanatical rant....OMG, I've become a "home fry" (as they call their fans, home fries)....Had to tell someone. Forget the rather rambling rant, just haven't heard of them before, which is sad, cause I guess they've been out a long time and have a rather huge song book...quite a pleasant rabbit hole. Please do react to them, as I'm sure you will fall in love with them. Do start out with Man of Constant Sorrow....you will be mesmerized! Love ya, Dan

Hi Dan! I've listened to Home Free numerous times. They do a great job with limited resources. They need to add some sopranos and altos to create really full sound. I'm sorry to say that beatboxing can be distracting and a waste of a good voice. That said, to hear a really outstanding A Cappella ensemble, you should listen to Voctave. They do many of the same songs as Home Free but at a considerable level above. For a good starting point, take a listen to Voctave's cover of "Blackbird" by Paul McCartney. Voctave's arrangements are all done by Jamey Ray who has also arranged for Home Free.

Thomas....very familiar with Voctave, excellent "choir", but, prefer smaller groups of actual personally connected singers. Voctave's madrigal style seems too impersonal. Just personal taste.

You should also listen to Celine Dion/Andrea Bocelli 'The Prayer' and Marcelito's version on 'The Wish' for I think that is his best so far.
