This is why I love Tim, a lot of his songs do seem stupid to an extent but there is always a deeper message in his work which I appreciate. He is an incredibly intelligent human being and that comes across in his stunning musicality. I really would struggle to name a single pianist who is at the level that Tim is, he's a straight up genius on that damn piano

Listen to it again. He weaves hints of the Stairway riff through the whole song, almost like a leitmotiv. Just brilliant writing and satire

I find it amusing that Tim Minchin played his exact opposite as addict rock star Atticus Fetch in the show Californication.

Great reaction! "White Wine in the Sun" is an amazing song of his! "Come Home Cardinal Pell" is another great one that has directly and indirectly helped a lot of people. Keep it up!

He also writes a brilliant love song. Try absence of you and while watching remember the video was filmed in one continuous uncut shoot

If you want to see him do something very different “Storm” is a perfect example of Tim’s use of storytelling in a beat poem format.

Also ironically he is actually seen as a deep and intelligent artist.

Funny you mention America’s Got Talent - there was actually a guy on one of the Got Talents who was essentially a carbon copy of Tim but without the Australian-ness (and not as good, IMO). He likes to toy with the notion of “depth” (see “Dark Side”), and sometimes semi-parodies it with utter sincerity (see “Beauty”), but as I believe others have mentioned, his more recent stuff has been pretty unashamedly emotional (see “If This Plane Goes Down” or especially “I Can’t Save You”) LOVE Tim, he’s brilliant and seems to be a genuinely good guy. Plus his online fan community is maybe the most welcoming and kind group of humans anywhere. 🥰

Nice reaction. It's autobiographical. He really is a music nerd and he does run every morning. 🙂 Tim did accidentally have a documentary filmed about him right as he suddenly became a breakout success at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.

Since you're a therapist, there's a pair of songs that might be fun for you to listen to together. Diamonds and Rust and Winds of the Old Days. Joan Baez wrote them both after her relationship with Bob Dylan ended. Diamonds and Rust is bitterness through and through. Winds of the Old Days came later, and with a new maturity, the bitterness is replaced by nostalgia both for what they had and for the movement they were both caught up in. She actually thanks him, and recognizes that he was never really hers to change. "Singer or savior? It was his to choose. Which of us knows what was his to lose?" I think you'd enjoy the transition between them even if you don't do a public reaction. Since I really like what you're doing and I know I'll be back, please know that any suggestion I Ieave is not a request for a reaction, but just me saying, "This came to mind and you might enjoy hearing it."

He recycles the idea of needing depth and a tortured upbringing in "Dark Side", which I would also recommend.

Perhaps the most surprising thing is that he doesn't know how to read music. He's said he's tried to learn - spent a couple of years trying - but was never able too.
