Did you go to college for any of this. I didnt and have no experience ? But i want to be a artist manager. What are some entry level job ideas that i could try to level up in for experience and move my way up? Like idk would it be working at a club or venue?

Andrea is on tour currently, so sometimes it takes her longer to get back to me, but this is from what I know and what she has said. Yes, she did go to college, but it is definitely not a requirement. Yes, any venue gig would be great or any gig in the industry. From what she has said previously, "You really have to take any gig you can and start there. The music business runs on word of mouth and is unlike a typical job. You need technical experience, but just as important, people have to enjoy working with you." Hopefully that answered your question

Thank you for this. How are artists supposed to afford back line if the landed fee is barely enough to cover ourselves?

Yeah it’s tough. For aspiring and upcoming artists, a lot of times you have to be both the crew and the artist. As far as gear goes, sometimes you have to rely on the venue and their gear, and try to buy a cheaper set up that works for you, for places that don’t have a backline. As technology gets better there are ways artists can have a decent setup for a cheaper price

@@PAFMCo makes sense. for now I just use my macbook pro with ableton to process everything through my interface and back to FOH. I DJ and play edm live

Just an idea you can look into, but a lot of bands program their lights themselves to using what I believe is through MIDI. This is so you can get a personalized lighting show without having a dedicated lighting person.

So I’m throwing a show in about a month and one of the bands asked “what’s being back lined” and I don’t know what that means exactly :(

In general, they most likely mean what you are providing them as far as equipment. This could be guitar amps, bass amps, mic stands, pa system, microphones, monitors, lights... etc.

how do you grow your career to get to be on the crew of a major celebrity?

Sorry for the late response, but by doing every gig you can and networking along the way. The music industry is an industry that runs entirely on word of mouth. You not only have to have technical experience, but people have to like working with you. Work your butt off, and get your name around.
