Welcome to Candid with Shaleen! In today’s episode, We are in Conversation with RJ Sayema
------------------------------------------------
About today’s Guest Sayema Rahman
Aspiring to become a lecturer as a young girl, Sayema wanted to follow the footsteps of her father who was also a lecturer. Rahman’s father was first to see her passion for radio and anchoring and supported her dream of making a career in radio, which helped her make it to the teenage radio audition for AIR in 12th grade. Then her journey as a radio presenter was given a kickstart by All India Radio as an English presenter and National News Reader (English). The life-changing turn from AIR to Radio Mirchi following her passion for radio, landed her the late-night radio show, Purani Jeans, in 2003. As an ardent fan of the incredible 70s and 80s Bollywood music, Sayema hosted one of the most prestigious, renowned and longest-running shows on Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, which became synonymous with her name. Purani Jeans closed down in Delhi in April 2017 after staying at the no.1 position for 14 years. She also hosts ‘Har Marz ki Dawa- Sayema’ on Radio Mirchi and enjoys a massive fan following on social media with more than 1 million followers on facebook and Twitter. Her video series ‘P for Pronunciation’, ‘Urdu ki Paathshaala’, ‘Suno Zindagi’ are popular all across youtube as well. Her instagram videos also keep the tradition of Urdu poetry alive through her recitals of the likes of Ghalib, Faiz and Kaifi Azmi etc. With her unique voice and soulful storytelling, she demolished the wall between generations and brought them together with her signature style of presenting her shows the millennial way.
Today, we take sayema’s unfiltered take on relationships, life and much more!
As we navigate the digital age, our lives are increasingly intertwined with screens, algorithms, and the ever-scrolling timelines of social media. How does this digital presence impact our mental health? What does it signify for the way we form relationships, where the paradigm has somewhat shifted to the simplicity of 'Swipe left, Swipe right'? In this world which is constantly buzzing with the rhythms of everyday life, we often find solace, joy, and even healing in the melodies. Yet, it extends beyond the realm: it's also about us, our voices, and the unique fingerprints we leave on the world. The importance of self-expression is like a hidden track in the soundtrack of our lives. How is this all intertwined?
