USMC West Coast Composite Band - 2013 Pasadena Rose Parade

The United States Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band performing at the 124th Annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Tuesday, January 1st 2013. This band is made up of three Marine Bands from around Southern California. The band members are fully combat-trained and prove that they are as proficient with their musical instruments as they are with their weaponry. Many of these these fine service members have completed tours in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.

My father was a Marine. Respect was taught very early. I'm amazed at so many young people who don't stand or remove their hats for the anthem. I'm amazed that at many public events people actually need to TOLD to remove their hats. Once a Marine , always a Marine. The only thing my father loved more than being a Marine was our mother and us kids. Thank You for posting this video. And Thank You to all of you out there that know what respect and honor are. I've been to the Rose Parade. Its always cold early in the morning waiting for the start. As a veteran I can honestly say there is nothing more motivating than the Marine band marching by. Well, until the Air Force does a low level, high speed pass that'll also give you tingles! ; )

Every member of unit bands like this are qualified riflemen, but the Marine Corps Band consist of only professional musicians, they are not Marines as designated by the lyre symbol on their chevron and the split stripe on their blue trousers.

Remember that in addition to being fine musicians, each member of the band is a qualified USMC Rifleman. Any specialty you may acquire as a Marine, you have to be a rifleman first, last and always. In many cases, fleet Marine band members went ashore with the assault troops and acted as stretcher bearers in battle situations, and assisting Navy Corpsmen in treat the wounded.

After WWII, the Army top brass, Truman, and Eisenhower tried to absorb the Marine Corps into the Army (at the time, the Commandant was not a member of the joint chiefs of staff; he was only consulted on matters related to the Corps.); the Marines mounted a PR campaign with Congress, and as a result they passed a law mandating the USMC with a minimum of four divisions.

When I joined 4th grade band as a drummer, the first thing our instructor taught us was a medley of Anchors Aweigh, The Marines Hymn and Caissons Go Rolling Along. Played it with pride. Instructor was a WW2 Vet. I always remember how I banged that piece out with authority and precision. He knew I got it. Can still play it like he taught me 36 years later. Love it! USA!

That was beautyful my brother was a marine back in the sixtys and he died in April 2018 the Marine Corps sent an honor guard to the cemetery it is true the Marines take care of their own.he loved the Marine Corps.

It might seem kind of lame, but the small stride is a result of the common marine corps practice of minimizing vertical movement while marching. The idea is that, when closing the distance of the target, the less vertical distance, the less likely the chance your rifle will bob up and down. Every marine corps custom/courtesy has a meaning.
