On October 29, 2020, the Norfolk Festival and composer/violinist Daniel Bernard Roumain - known as DBR - began a series exploring DBR's Norfolk premiere: "Can We Talk About Why The Fires Burn?"* In this first event DBR, Festival Director Melvin Chen, and Afa S. Dworkin, President and Artistic Director of The Sphinx Organization, discussed the Norfolk commission and the role of art in society.
"Musical Bridges" is a multiyear project of the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival which commissions new works that place classical chamber music within a broader musical and cultural context.
"Can We Talk About Why The Fires Burn?" is a commission of The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival with support from the Desai Family Foundation in collaboration with the Sphinx Organization and the Yale Schwarzmann Center.
The working title "Can We Talk About Why The Fires Burn?" was changed to "Twin Stars: Diamond Variations for Dae’Anna" before the work's 7/9/21 premiere.
