Rachelle is sort of Lea's protegé in musical theater that's probably why Lea was beaming with pride when Rachelle belted @4:46. Rachelle was a popular pop singer way back in the Philippines then she did a stint in Disney's Little Mermaid the musical in Manila. This is where Lea noticed her. I believe she watched it with her daughter. Impressed by Rachelle's performance, Lea prodded Rachelle to audition for Miss Saigon and the rest is history.

Yes! Me and my family watched the Little Mermaid in 2012! Lea was there! A lot of celebrities and elite people watched the musical and the reviews were so great! Lea encouraged Rachelle to vie for the role at Miss Saigon auditions 2013. Rachelle doubted herself but Lea believed in her capabilities as a singer. Then the rest was history! ❤️

Dear Georgina... so happy that you react at this video I watched to it so many times,: first I always love the song, the music is so intense... and I love Lea Salonga for many years, and I discover Rachelle who is for me a very very very good singer she is stunning... and this version live is superb. But have you take a look of the version US miss Saigon where she sing with the new Kim who is Eva Noblezada ?? well it's not a live performance it's a video clip but OMG the 2 voices are so perfectly harmonized... and they made a new arrangement of the song I think for promoting the shows when it returns in US... For me it's the one of the best song of musical theater... I'm not a specialist of it I know there are a lot of stunning songs... but this one... It touchs my heart deeply. Theater made her (Rachelle) voice better than it used to be. I saw this before. Lea though better (but had some cracks) loved what Rachelle did. She did a fantastic job. Rachelle was truly the perfect choice. BRAAAAVOOO to the both of them!

Agree about Rachelle. I am happy she went the theatre route instead of the pop one. She did become a better vocalist. I saw this in London and I was more impressed with her than with Eva. P.S. I think Eva is amazing now so she has definitely grown with age and experience.

That was NOT the regular show. That was a short concert (I believe following the 25th anniversary performance) for current and past cast members, hosted by Lea, which is why they could change the song a bit and Lea was able to break character - something she would never normally do. Their voices harmonise beautifully, don't they.

yes I still remember the old lyrics because I have been a big fan of the musical since it was premiered in the royal Drury lane on West end. I still have the cd of the original recordings. "the screen before me fills, he takes me to new York, my children laugh all day, and each too much ice cream". such wonderful original lyrics so I'm always set a little off when I hear the rewritten words because the original lyrics were so good and I guess have already been ingrained in my head.

Its true Filipinos have karaoke everywhere, they love to sing. I have been in a elevator and there might be one person besides myself, a filipino, and listened to them sing all the way up not caring that this foreign guy was there. I have been in a department store and a popular song comes over the sound system and heard six to ten sales girls all start singing out loud. Filipino's are such great people.
