It’s super ironic seeing Hugh Maynard singing about ‘half-breeds’, though being part of one minority doesn’t insure one from discriminating against people in another of course
@rhymedelacruz57664 жыл бұрын
@@LAUREN-dp7vx can I ask what you mean by that?? His character was advocating for the kids of American soldiers and Vietnamese women who were being put in camps. He called them half-breeds to mean they were half-Vietnamese and half-American
@LAUREN-dp7vx4 жыл бұрын
rhyme dela cruz yes I know and obviously he is acting, but seeing a black man use racist language is a bit jarring. He’s the first black man I’ve seen in the role
@mr.indecisive4 жыл бұрын
LAUREN I don't see a problem with the use of the word half-breeds since that's what they were called. Of course you wouldn't say it nowadays, but Miss Saigon plays in the past and is practically a piece pf history, so why censor it? And I don't think it matters to this subject whether the character is black or white. This is just reinforcing the thought that black people can't be racist towards other races and vice versa. Btw, John was played by black actors before, e.g. Norm Lewis in 1995.
