My first (and only) professional musical was Miracle on 34th Street a few years ago, and I had about 20 seconds to do a quick change (in the first scene!) from "normal person in New York November in the 1940s" to "A literal elf for the Macy's Parade" and even though I did that show many times (one of them I was too late and forgot to add the socks last second) it still gave me anxiety every time.

I’m pretty sure it’s magnets, so the outer layer is easy to rip off to reveal the dress under. The chorus subtlety carries the outer layer and prop dress offstage.

In the MTV special they talked about it-- it's magnets. The second dress is underneath the first, and the first dress is attached w/magnets so they can just pull it off and the shopgirl uses it to hide the dress she was originally carrying.

Laura bell Bundy did that quick change in 3.32 seconds but anyway if anyone is wondering how the heathers one is done Carrie hope fletcher showed it in a vlog one time underneath the bulky jacket is her costume so they just swap that jacket for the blazer and add the scrunchie/headband then tey have a drink of water and get ready to go back on the whole quick change takes about 37 seconds between when she leaves and when she comes back on thoyugh changing probably doesnt take that long

Disney Dan explains every iteration of that quick change in a video! Long story short, everything is on strings, which pull the pieces backward:)

@@harley.j.indigo I'm not sure of that. In my professional production of Frozen, we used the Broadway technique where there is like a hole in the ground and one person down there grabs Elsas costume and tears it away, which can't be seen because of the fog. It has to be this, because it was professional in the sense of it being quite big, actors being full time actors and getting paid and there is some union rule that we had to keep up with the standarts (set, costumes..) the show was currently on.
