OK YES FINALLY SOMEONE BROUGHT UP THE FACT THAT IDANA MENZEL IS HURTING HER VOICE. I’m not denying that she is INCREDIBLY talented, it’s just that she’s damaging her vocal chords. My singing teacher’s friend tried to teach her to use her voice safety and she just wouldn’t take it.
@morganmiller5413
@morganmiller5413 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not defending her behavior, but for some people change is scary. Her voice has sounded amazing for a long time. She might be scared that if she relearns now that her voice will never sound as good as the years prior.
@chloe3924
@chloe3924 4 жыл бұрын
She isn’t hurting her vocal cords. She is using less force, lots of air to sing loudly to the high notes. It’s almost like you can’t feel anything. She also changes vowels for her comfort but no one can hear it. She also has done a lot of training to not hurt her vocal cords. My singing teacher is a musical theatre performer so most performers use that technique. She is also changing her mouth shape to support the note.

@@offbrandoreos5013 i sound weird because i dont have vibrato, none. Idk how to do it. Everyone just does it naturally and it makes your voice sound gorgeous but how tf do i do it?!
@Honeyflight
@Honeyflight 4 жыл бұрын
@@franfrankie7 It has to do with proper technique. If you're relaxed and using proper technique for singing usually you start unconsciously using vibrato, but for many people they either fake or never had vibrato to begin with. It's a lot more common than you think, I know a handful of people who just never got vibrato, but their voices are still gorgeous. Having vibrato doesn't make you a good singer though, especially if you don't know how to use it properly and let it run rampant. Just be patient and continue to practice, I only really have a slight vibrato either unless I'm really comfortable and I've been in choir for 2 years now.

And the reason Lafayette was talking to Peggy, was because, in real life, Lafayette actually had a friend, whom Peggy liked. She also found Lafayette 'Charming' and had a small crush on him, then she met his friend. So, most likely they would have been discussing the friend, because Laffy Taffy over here knew that Peggy liked the friend, and that the friend liked Peggy.

I’m always jealous when people show all the leads they got, because I know I can sing, and act, and dance and everything, but I can’t practice at home because my parents aren’t supportive of me in theatre. My dad always tells me I’m awful because he never hears me sing and my mom always things that I disservice every lead in every show I audition for, though she’s never heard me sing by myself and I’m always ensemble. I wanna do community theatre but they tell me it’s a waste of time, and I also didn’t reserve the right stuff the learn while growing up in choir. Fuck that teacher who wasted my damn time and made me fuck up my vocal cords!

The "lowkey amazing choir singer" troupe is killing me. Just because they can do improvised runs, slides, and accidentals doesn't mean they're a good choir singer. There's a difference between being a good POP singer and a good choir singer. Here's what amazing CHOIR singers should do: 1. FOLLOW THE SHEET MUSIC. IT'S NOT A SUGGESTION, IT'S THE RULES. If your choir director wanted you to improvise, they wouldn't have given you sheet music to follow. 2. DONT CHANGE OR DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT THAN THE SHEET MUSIC SAYS UNLESS YOUR DIRECTOR TELLS YOU TO. Listen to your poor director and follow their hands. They wouldn't have a job if you could actually do it all yourself. 3. FOLLOW DYNAMICS 4. FOCUS ON CORRECT VOWELS 5. BREATHE IN THE CORRECT PLACES, AVOID INTERRUPTING SENTENCES IN THE SONG 6. DON'T JUDGE OTHERS FOR STRUGGLING, MISSING A NOTE, OR NEEDING HELP- CHOIR CAN BE HARD 7. DON'T BRAG ABOUT YOURSELF OR TRY TO OUTDO OTHERS. BLEND, BE A TEAM PLAYER. There's nothing to prove, just do your best and keep to yourself. 8. STAGE ETIQUETTE! DON'T MESS AROUND BEFORE OR DURING YOUR PERFORMANCE. FOLLOW DIRECTIONS AND BE STILL AND CALM. There you go. That's what great choir performers REALLY do.

One of my friends is a major theatre kid, they go to a 3 hour theatre club, and when there's a school play they brag about how much all the directors want her in it. She's so confident she doesn't try at the auditions and just laughs and talks really loudly (Low-key tho, she kinda sucks at singing). Spent my entire high school drama career as the stage manager, can confirm 10:15 🤣 My sophomore year, we did Footloose, and the guy playing the lead's best friend (sorry, it's been uh... a number of years >.< ) had been a complete diva to me from the moment he was cast. He'd also bragged that he could do a split until he talked the choreographer into letting him end his one number in one. So on opening night, he did his song, he slid down into a split for the big finale, threw his hands into the air, and ended. And I just... left him there. Didn't call the cue to take the lights down. Sat on headset with the light board going, "Wait for it... wait for it..." Applause was going strong, he was beaming, then it just. . . . D r a g g e d o u t. The applause petered out. You could see the strain of holding the position without his hands on the ground. His face omg. THEN I called the cue. Go ahead, fuck with stage management and the tech booth 👌 😊

Hello Feimicha from 2021, I’m Feimicha from 2022 I’m a music nerd, have a huge amount of respect for choirs and musical theatre, but I was scared away from participating in it. It hurts like mad. It doesn’t help that my worst habit is suppressing my personality and coming up with personas to use around everyone I speak to, from little adjustments to my personality to a whole new one. I’ve ruined my last relationship and last few friendships from that. Social stress kills me dude-

It's not saying that she sounded bad. It's just that she puts so much strain on her vocal cords that she is gradually hurting them. Everyone knows she's amazing, it wasn't an insult specifically to her personally.

@@kassiegrace5564 I'm kinda late, but Barrett and Idina both had extremely difficult roles early on in their careers. Idina had Elphaba who had those crazy riffs, belts, and so on, and Barrett had Veronica Sawyer who would belt in every song she was apart of and had some pretty high notes. From what I can tell it's that Idina wasn't taught correctly and for Barrett her voice just was ruined from the singing, they are both getting better thankfully
