This was produced back when music was fantastic. New albums coming out every week. People seemed friendlier. The 70s was a great time to grow up. Thanks for sharing.

and first part of 80s.....everyone hanging out, jamming, meeting up, pubs open all day everywhere for a nice lunch and lemonade, tv with adventures, imagination, insight,... better car design, better architecture, more critical thinking,.... it was a better time, it's not rose tinted illusionary glasses,

Thank you for posting this. The Who were the headline act at the first live show I ever saw,(about 1967), supported by the Small Faces & Paul Jones. They ended the show by smashing all the equipment, which was a memorable experience for a 15yr old. My eldest son plays drums & has an original Keith Moon type drum kit. The sound they put out even then, was amazing for 3 guys on the instruments. 😃

you're from GB! that had to be a great time. when they were firmly established in the USA, I saw them a couple times in Boston Garden w/ the whole floor section (empty during sporting events) full of loud fans. and it got loud enough when the CELTICS or BRUINS were killing it! so, I vivdly remember Pete's first leap into the air (during his white jeans/T-shirts Era. th after SG's, and during PT's Les Paul days. the crowd roared. I think they were trying to bring QUADROPHENIA to the USA. '73ish ,SKYNYRD opened for them! soon, they were conquering the radio .we didn't know them really, until they put out 'Sweet Home Alabama'. but that nite, it was clear that they could hang w/ the '70's bands. that they weren't simply openers. Ronnie VZ is often pictured w/ that really cool T-shirt THEWHO/'FALLOUT SHELTER'

I love that Keith Moon never tried to mime playing the drums properly in TV studio performances. He was almost mocking the pretense of it all. 😊

FULL DISCLOSURE: I am not of this "Generation" but got something to say, lots actually so here is my book. Hope you don't "fade away" as Roger say. Now, was born in 73 and with help of my beloved Mommy ...miss you so much. Iwas PROUDLY born unto the KISS ARMY ( I know boo hiss loser hippie..stfu sit down) via the Paul Lynde Halloween 76 show. In fact, Mr. Demon now calls me "The Queen of the KISS ARMY Trans Division...yes a proud Blondie BOMBSHELL old school metalhead outlaw biker ornament Transgurl. So you know what part of the Ozone I am coming from. Now I am somewhat of a late bloomer the Who. I think back to this early era of "Heavymisic" and I guess late 60's o 71 I guess it be The Who, Led Zep and (My boys) BLACK SABBATH. Now in Thrash Metal there is "The Big 4" so, wondering who thru65-71 would be that 4?? For me I would say THE DOORS, but they are not from UK. TRYING, to think when Deep Purple debuted? Anyway, My dearly beloved KISS were HUGE fans of The Who. Now I live in The HORRIBLE city of PHILTHADELPHIA, PA. When KISS were signed they were given tickets and a limo ride from Manhattan to my shitty city to see The Who at The Spectrum. Paul and Grne spoke oh how great and inspiring the show was. In fact other than The Who... My Y fave song "Won't Get Fooled" was played live on the ASYLUM tour. Type in KISS "WON'T GET FOOLLED 1985 FT. WORTH. TX or NYC, or Detroit 85...AMAZING and later years worked into "Lick it Up " live. Check it out. I was always amazed by Keith Moon. It doesn't even lok kike he is hitting the drumsand cymbals... it's INSANE. What kills me though is that this story is being told by the worst person.. MUSIC CRITICS. I have one album "Who's Next". I wonder if it's remastered and repacked? Iam going to ge t the. Record Store Day repackage of The Story of The Who and gotta get whatever record Emminece Front is on. One thing. I always respected The Who...and their fans not rude to me growing up. They didn't tell me my fave vands sucked....like ignorant Led Zep or my most HATED..THE BEATLES, GAWD I HATE THEM. Like Sabbath be it with Ozzy or Dio... Everybody in The Who was great at their thhing. I would like to get a copy of that 1973 Spectrum show in Philly if it is as surfaced. . Inlook forward to getting to know more about the band. Check out the cover by THE SCORPIONS "CAN'T EXPLAIN". Ido know this...I will always be ate Happy Jack.,...now that sucks lol.

I never understood why the song 1924 wasn't titled 1944. That particular timeline just never made sense. The Who, and every other band from the 60's, were all children of WWII or shortly thereafter.

Pay no attention to Hugh Fielder who speaks authoritatively yet starts making mistakes in the first two minutes. Constant Lambert was a classical composer, not an opera singer. He was quite famous and it makes all of his bold statements pale.

@@rman52 the thing i really didnt like about the who was their lyrics, my generation being the exception, their lyrics seems stupid to me, another band i hated was Led Zepplin. Also if i dont like the people i wont like music, i hated Townshed, and Robert Plant. Plant was a proper poser, he had the voice, the image, and the first at that rock sound, but he was in love with himself, not like Bon Scott, then Townshed, aw man dont get me started, he turns my stomach hes so full of himself arrogent and pretentious for a rhythm guitarist,, 🤣 .... i didnt like Keith Moon, and Jon Bonham, more posers, and too busy no groove..over rated...I like phil Rudd style, john Coghlan, Charlie Watts, Phil Taylor. Guitarist i like are " fast eddie clark" keef Richards, johnny Ramone, stevie Ray,,

@@lukethedrifter100 Sounds like you love the daddy of rock more than the baby. Old fashioned blues. I get it. It's what made the Stones my 1st love of rock. Keith's bluesy riffs and Watts feel. Same reason I couldn't get enough of Chuck Berry albums. Funny you didn't like the Who's lyrics. I think Tommy's lyrics are a masterpiece. For me, I always thought lyrics were ELPs biggest weakness. I like your list of favs. All terrific musicians. Peace.
