Gibson USA ES-339 VS ES-335 Tone Review (No Talking)

More similar than different. Excellent comparison! I prefer the 339 tones. This proves the Gibson reviews are spot on, the 339 sits comfortably between a 335 and a Les Paul. As great as this comparison is, the difference could easily be attributed to the freshness of the strings, bridge material, pickups or combination of all three.

Had myself talked into the 339, I like the size and the look, but I can't deny the 335 is fuller, more complex , and has that magic tone on the neck pickup when playing around the 12th fret.

Playing chords in my humble opinion the 339 sounded cleaner with a wider range of tones. The 335 sound seemed nasal. The distortion sound was superior, more resonant, and snappier. Both are excellent guitars. Your demo was a very accurate representation of the sounds of each. Excellent job on the demo.

liking more the es 335, it’s warm or soft, less harsh, but it could be so many variants that we don’t really know why , I would consider the both of em in different scenarios, great demo by the way

Agreed. The 335 would sound great through a Blues Driver with the volume turned up and tone turned down 😁

For clean tones I think the 335 gets the nod. Big and airy. Add gain and volume and the 339 and it's tighter tone closes the gap quickly. The smaller size of the 339 makes the body more manageable albeit at the expense of diminished upper fret access if you have big hands like me. I have owned both. Couldn't get on with the bigger body of the 335 and quickly flipped it. My 339 is a keeper. It is a great all around rock and roll guitar.

A very good demo,with both guitars at their best. Love ‘em both. I’m a little smaller, so the 339 always feels good to me. I do have both however and reach for each one equally.

Somehow i think 339 is for people who want a mixture of 335 airiness and LP tightness. 335 has a better sound I think, but you may need an LP too. 339 seems to cover a bit of both

I think the 339 replaces the 335 in terms of that part of the product stack. It’s smaller and is just a gem to play. I have one and I wouldn’t trade it for a Les Paul or a 335. It’s just in a special spot and is extremely versatile. Especially when you throw in split coil capability.

I'll take the 335 all day. Bigger, warmer sound, better crunch, gets that violin singing tone that the best Gibsons are known for.

Permanent magnetic field and RLC parameters of 339 sound sweet and modern, those of 335 sound more adult and vintage. Love both, but bult 339 for myself and happy so far. Will buy one of the 335 or 355 though, for great history and benchmarking/reference in further projects. Great playing! I lost myself while listening and almost forgot why I am here. I wish I could play like that.

339 is more focused - sounds great, but the 335 is more versatile. I’ll betcha that the 339 is easier to maneuver around due to its more compact size. I’ve been eyeing one up in my local guitar store, but they sell out fast.

I love the 335 but I really have been looking to pick up a 339 just for the comfortable size. What would really be perfect is a 339 that’s 1/2” thicker with a bit narrower center block. You could get the airy, clear tone from bigger hollow sections in a narrower body.

Both sound great. Personally I chose a 335 because the 339 just looks less balanced aesthetically to me - which will purely be because I'm used to the 335 body size lol

The 335 definitely sounds bigger and has more low end, but I love the tighter and more focused sound of the 339. They’re both great guitars though.

The 335 sounds hollower, but still ballsy, and of course, iconic because we've all heard it on recordings and live. The 339 sounds less resonant in a good way, creates less muddiness and clearer tone to my ears, way better than expected. I had a 347 which was a handful to balance and play with the best of neck straps. I think I'll try a 339 as the size and tone are both appealing to me. Could probably dump my SC PRS !

339 is better on clean sounds.335 got more fur on gain,that's the real tone of classic 60s psychedelic.

i think if your only playing mellower stuff that fatter tone of the 335 is what u need ,, don't get me wrong it sounds great dirty ,, but if you could only bring one guitar on the road to play everything the 339 is the go to guitar ,, just fits in that pocket so well

Funny how subjective tone is. I much prefer the 335, though most others say 339. The 335 sounds open in a much more appealing way, but yeah, that's my opinion. 🤣

Most likely it's the pickup and the tone block RLC, then ADC of the one who recorded that tones, then DAW with mix&master, then codec, then comes KZbin's compresstion, then DAC of your smartphone and the earphones and then finally what seats inbetween the earplugs and hormons/mood. )
