I know of an El Salvadorean guy in Canada who spoke Spanish and English. He said, that he became a speaker of Tagalog. I asked how? His answer was he worked with Filipinos for 8 hrs./ daily. They were his friends and hung out with them outside of work. They would only speak in Tagalog. Hence, he was exposed to Tagalog more than 8 hrs. a day and he also made an effort to acquire the language. He said in three years, he was a fluent speaker of Tagalog to them. It wasn't fast, but he did progress faster, than others, as he effectively was immersed in Tagalog everyday.

@7:41: yes, you can choose a country where you wanna chat randomly with people in that specific country. @8:28: he used to have a filipina girlfriend but they broke up. currently, i think, he has a colombian gf. he regularly practices speaking filipino with his co-workers. he even asks his filipino co-workers not to speak with him in english, just in filipino so that he'll become even more fluent in filipino. btw, he also speaks spanish & german in omegle. @16:21: yeah, speaking several languages fluently comes naturally to him. i wish i am a polyglot like him.

He has a slight Visayan or other dialect "puntó" [accent] which he probably caught from whom he learned Tagalog. I think non-Tagalas also tend to use "lungsod", which he used, instead of the more commonly used English word "city" here in the Metro. I'm guessing the Filipino friends he learned Tagalog from are from different parts of the PHL.

Fun to watch, indeed! ❤ Just a little note: the perception that Philippine languages are dialects is so old school. Ilokano, Kinaray-a, Tagalog, and Filipino (the national language which combines all linguistic influences on the country through a Tagalog-based tongue) are major Philippine LANGUAGES.
@VidAudioJojo
@VidAudioJojo Жыл бұрын
Correct. Basically, a dialect is simply variation of a language. Algerian Arabic, in that sense, is a dialect of Saudi Arabic. Interestingly and to put that in perspective, the linguistic distance between the Nordic languages Norse and Swedish is far LESS than that between Tagalog and Ilokano.

Tagalog language is closely related to Minasahan languages in Sulawesi Indonesia, 80% of Filipino language is composed of mostly of Tagalog, while the remaining 10% to 20% is a mixture of Arabic, Spanish, Southern Chinese dialect (Hokkien), Japanese, Sanskrit, Tamil, Nahuat'l and English. In fact, Tagalog, also known as Filipino, is ranked as a Category 4 language by FSI's ranking. Due to its linguistic and cultural differences with the English language and the ranking shows it will take around 1100 hours to attain fluency. Facts about Tagalog language Strictly speaking, Tagalog is the indigenous language of a people native to Southern Luzon. Filipino is a standardized or official version of the Manila dialect of Tagalog. There are currently between 4 to 8 dialects of Tagalog, but "Filipino" denotes only the Manila variant, the Tagalog of Batangas province is pure a Tagalog, and have very strong accent unlike Tagalog of Manila.

Jared lives in Edmonton, Alberta, where many Filipinos have settled. Go look up Bailey on "akosibail" YT channel. She lives in Toronto so you can practice Tagalog with her. She collaborated with Dwaine Woolley, an Australian who's fluent in Tagalog and Waray-waray, the language of his wife Shanta. React to their posts from two to four years ago then link up with them now before you travel to the Philippines.

Let me guess: Vancouver. NCR: National Capital Region is the Metro Manila area. What's impressive is his intonation and use of Tagalog slang. There are consonants not in the English alphabet and which westerners aren't used to saying is what gives him away (particularly "ng," e.g. "magaling" (ie. "good) and a few others). Otherwise, Jay Hartmann speaks and is able to articulate himself well in Tagalog (and also spoke Ilocano phrases). _Kinaray-a_ is the language spoken in the province of Antique in the Panay Islands (Central Visayas). Please note: Tagalog, Ilocano, Bisaya, Kapampangan, etc. are all Philippine languages and these have variants that are properly their own dialects :) proof of which when Jay said "agyaman-ak" (Ilocano for "I am grateful," none of the siblings understood it). If you put any of these speakers from different regions in one room together and spoke in their own languages (without borrowed Tagalog or English words), they wouldn't be able to understand each other for sure ü

To get the lowest ticket price, you are to fly during the low season. Christmas is definitely a high season. The low season to fly out of Canada (or USA) is when the school year has just started. It is generally better to buy a ticket during the low season and close to your desired departure flight date from Canada. Several years ago, I purchased a 2-way ticket at a price below $500, with just one stop-over; at the time, 2-way domestic flight tickets cost more than $600. There is greater competition, though, among airlines here in the USA than in Canada for flights to the Philippines.
