The song isn't actually about a girl. It's showing the pain of the youth. Also to explain the random scenes: The scenes that are playful and foolish are showing them in their happiest moments which are all together with each other, and then the scenes showing the pain are to contrast that happiness to show that when they aren't together there is an underlying distress and suffering that they are all going through. So there are 7 stories that occur in this video, and they're all connected to each other as they're all friends. 1) Jungkook is the one that's getting beat up, and he finally gets run over by the car 2) J-Hope took the pills, overdosed and collapsed next to the highway on the bridge 3) Rap Monster is the one in the gas station. He works there helping people refuel. We see he gets treated pretty poorly there, and in the end he drops his "lollipop" onto the ground where there's gasoline. The lollipop turns into a cigarette though, implying that he blew himself up. A theory is that he has schizophrenia, and that's why he mistook the cigarette for a lollipop (we see further evidence of schizophrenia in the subsequent video, "Run"). 4) Suga is the one alone in the hotel room and the one who sets himself on fire. There's a theory out there stating that this entire video is based on Kurt Cobain's (Nirvana) life, and that maybe Suga and Jungkook are a couple in this video. We see Jungkook's shirt hanging in Suga's hotel room, and Suga is obviously missing someone (also there's plenty of interactions between Jungkook and Suga in Prologue and Run). It would also explain why Jungkook got beat up (for being gay?). 5) Jimin is the one who drowns himself in the bathtub. Not much explanation there, but his story is linked to J-Hope's, so some people think that maybe he read J-Hope's suicide letter (via pills) and drowns himself as a result. 6) V is the one who stabs the man. It's implied in other videos (Prologue, Run, Stigma) that the woman is his sister and the man he stabs is his father. 7) Jin is probably the most confusing one. He's the one sitting alone in the room, and he's holding flowers and burning them. Now he's apparently holding six petals and we later see the image of a white flower with six petals blooming on his chest. Some people theorized that the six petals represent the six members. Based on this video, it seems that everyone else has died and he's the only one left alive (he opens the window, signifying a new day = moving on). However, in subsequent videos (Run, Prologue + Wings series) it seems that perhaps he's the one who's dead, and everyone else is alive. The entire HYYH (Most Beautiful Moment in Life, which is what the opening card says) is made of a connecting storyline, that is both confusing yet oddly compelling and complete. There's no real clear answer as to what the heck is actually going on in these videos, and there's many theories running around. Also, the song and the video don't necessarily coincide (in fact I think they've said that the song wasn't supposed to be about a girl but rather about dreams and ambitions) so the song and videos really have nothing to do with each other. Their concep for that era was "youth". The "most beautiful momment in life". And how youth involves good and bad things. How in that time you can feel lonely even sorrounded by people. How a lonely person who strugles and has problems, feels better with friends. How teenagers and young adults deal with problems such as depresion, bullying, drugs, love that hurts, abusive parents, etc, and at the same time, they can feel happy when with friends. And how that's need it. That's what this song and video is about. The dead guy was V's father abusing his mother AGAIN and he snaped.

This MV is just the first in BTS's MV series. The videos in this series all come together to tell a story. The next video in the series is called *PROLOGUE*, then the next one is *RUN*, and the last one is *YOUNG FOREVER*) and there is also a series of 7 short films (one for each member of BTS) that are also part of this series if you guys are interested 😃 the short films (in order) are called *Begin*, *Lie*, *Stigma*, *First Love*, *Reflection*, *Mama*, and *Awake*. There is a LOT that happens in this series and there is lot of symbolism in it as well. The whole story is really confusing and there are a lot of different theories on what exactly the full story is. But it's fun to try to put all the pieces together and figure out the story You guys should definitely check it out!

this MV has a lot symbolism, and ARMYS ( BTS fans) have come up with countless theories. But every member has a story on this MV. the characters played by the members portray friendship, love, depression, abuse, suicidal thoughts, and drug abuse. The members wanted to show the dark side of youth, and the problems some face. They value friendship as is their only way to be happy and comforted from the outside world. Anyways, you should watch BTS - prologue and BTS-RUN those are the continuations of this MV.

This music video is the beginning of their Youth era. I always took the song to mean that they either needed each other or some particular thing. I do know that it's not actually about a girl, but they used that word because it made more sense musically/lyrically.

Personally, having read the book Demian on which it all is based, I think it's an incredible story they show and RapMon is a genius (but what's newㅋㅋㅋ)

u know ,when they filmed this MV they weren't that rich or popular back then, they didn't have money to rent actors so their managers took the roles in the video and even the car was their manager's car because they didn't have enough money .... Fortunately ,this song became a hit , so they gained the fame and the wealth , and now they're making those eye catching ,breathtaking music videos

FYI, "i need u" is BTS' first song that reached no.1 on a music show in korea. This song made them famous. it was follow up by they're song "Dope" and this year, they released "fire" and the recent "blood,sweat and tears" which is the first korean song who made it to Billboard 100 at no.23(or 25 I think). They also got the album of the year award 2016 at melon music awards. Every bts songs and music videos actually have different meaning. that's why you really have watch and read the translations of their songs to know more about it.

I like the fact you paid close attention to the music. You have to know that one of the reason i like BTS is because they all help in producing, composing and writing. I need U was less artsy than Blood Sweat and Tears for the only reason of the budget. When they shot I Need U there weren't as famous as today, and they come from an obscur and small company, so they couldn't even hired actors, so you actually saw their managers... and their manager's car... xD For the meaning, your guess is as good as ours, we have some leads but BTS is one of those groups that just love to make you think... and they won't tell you an explanation, because you can understand what you want even if it's not what they planned AHAHAH. I suggest watching Run from BTS again, it's after that I Need U MV... with English subs please, every BTS MV have English Subs and they're always important to understand what's going on...and they're just beautiful...

Hi, well bts has stories behind their music videos, there was a trilogy that tell the story of a group of friends all starting with the I need you music video. Then before Blood, Sweat and Tears they did 7 short films that told a story that was inspired by the book damian, and they related it to the I need you triology... you can find theories all over you tube or if you want to see the videos, just check the order. And sometimes the lyrics doesn't tell much about the story, the film is the important when it comes to theories.

They all had vices and yes, the lollipop is also a vice. That's why you see in one part of the vid the lollipop Rap Monster has been sucking became a cigarette when he threw/let it fall to the ground. I really think the MV (and the other videos) are open to the viewer's interpretation but I think it mainly sends out the message that all of them were going through something. Like the one who stabbed his dad because he was hitting his mother (yes, those were his parents), or the suicidal tendencies of the others. This is just my own understanding though. :)

Keep in mind that the lyrics to this song has nothing to do with the content in the video. If you watch a couple of BTS Music videos in a specific order it tells a story. (In order) BTS I Need U (Original) BTS Prologue BTS Run MV BTS Forever Young A lot of the content in the videos involve deep interpretations and attention to detail as there are a lot of symbolism. Most aren't able to comprehend the story on their first watch, the story line may seem a bit random but trust me there is a story line. If you watch all of them and still don't understand you should watch BTS I Need U theory by Just Ally. The video explains everything.
