The lyrics are significant, in that the words Stevie Ray wrote, "thank you for all the love you passed our way". He was saying that to Charlie, but then Jimmie Vaughan and Stevie Ray's mama, had those words placed on his grave stone. He's buried next to my Grandma. I take them both flowers from time to time. 🎸💔

The most beautiful eulogy/message to a friend I've ever heard; the way he plays the guitar takes on a different, almost uncomfortably intimate meaning when you realize he's basically crying for his lost friend with the guitar that friend made for him....with his teeth at times. Almost feel like I'm eavesdropping; & amazingly remarkable that anybody would share their most personal travails & feelings in such an unabashedly humble, public way.

Tommy Shannon bassist also his best friend went into rehab at the same time. Stevie was a humble gentle soul which was even as beautiful as his guitar playing. He helped many to become sober including Bonnie Rait. After he became sober he began his little message thanking God that he was well enough to be wherever he was that night. Love this guy.

His brother Jimmie also said Stevie showed us the way out. He spent his last 4 sober years helping as many people he could to travel the sober road. He would spend time with strangers that would come up to him wondering how he did it. He is even inspiring lost souls today to get or stay sober. What a sad loss for the rest of us🙏💯

@@harrietmiller3982 His AA testimony is on youtube titled SRVs AA Speech full. Jimmie was supposed to be in the helicopter with Stevie but he didn't go because Jimmie wanted to travel with his wife, when he was called to identify Stevie's body, Jimmie prayed for a sign that Stevie was ok. After Jimmie did that he was pulling away in the car and someone came running alongside the car and handed Jimmie the Coptic cross that Stevie wore almost all the time. He took that as his sign.

@@SueProst hi Sue✌️ thank you for your comment. I haven't watched the AA KZbin video. I knew Jimmie was supposed to take the seat but I didn't know the part of him asking for a sign and someone bringing that to him. That is powerful🙏✨🌟⭐️💫 I knew Jimmie had that cross and he even wears on occasion from photos I've seen. The most difficult task of identifying a loved one. That has to be scarring.😢. I appreciate you filling in this piece for us Sue.

Pure soul. One of the things we miss having lost Stevie early is his vocal ability, and the passion he could bring to it, something I feel is often overlooked about him. This particular performance I think illustrates that, maybe the best example we have left to us, although all too short on the singing. Dammit, he'd have done amazing things with a tin whistle, never mind a guitar lol.

As you mentioned that necklace twice, I recall being told that Stevie died wearing that necklace in that horrible accident. Also, sadly that brother Jimmy Lee found it at that crash site the next day. It now pains me to look at it, even though it's quite stunning, and seemed to be a favorite piece that Stevie wore often. Does anyone know if these things are true? Please answer. 💔🎸😇. ☮️,. to all

Stevie Ray was an amazing person that loved everyone he had a big heart, his father was an alcoholic with a violent temper and would terrorize his family, friends and town but Jimmy Vaughan said Stevie got it the worst and didn't know why but Stevie was a very shy kid and had no confidence in himself and coming from a very abusive home myself we tend to turn to drugs and alcohol to numb the pain of our childhood. He overcame but was always an amazing person.

👏🙌‼️Thanks Justin💯. Every SRV fan waits for a reactor to get to this one💯 Probably everyone's most favorite💙. Yes, this performance has everything and then some. This was 7 months after Charley passed suddenly at age 40 from a heart attack. This was such a tender and heartfelt tribute to Charley who built that white guitar out of parts for Stevie and Stevie named that guitar after him.🎸 . I appreciate you keeping on down the Stevie Ray rabbit hole. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy the versatility and virtuosity displayed by this artist, and the company here is the best✌️. So the part where he played with his teeth, if you noticed, he immediately spun around and started looking on the floor. He had lost a false tooth and had to spot it without missing a beat. You can see him tell his tech "my tooth!" and then says "sorry!" because they had to pick it up for him. What a guy! He always insisted that the band's performances be spilt equally between them. Not your usual arrangement but they were a true Band of Brothers and they supported him so well as you pointed out. They watched him very closely so they could keep him in the pocket no matter where he went. There are so many recommendations to make but for something different I will suggest MTV Unplugged where he plays a 12 string acoustic guitar in a small TV studio as well as just for really fun grins and a backstage look, check out his 17 minute "soundcheck". Yeah that's right a soundcheck💯 it has over 21 million views so...hopefully you put that on the list. 🙏🙏✌️. PS, my son's name was Justin❣️

He wrote this in memory of his friend, Charley Wirz who had recently passed away. Charley customized that white guitar for Stevie. Stevie named the guitar "Charley". He popped a tooth out during his "teeth solo". That's why he walked around looking down trying to find it. Then, walked to the mic, looked up & and said, "Thank you, Charley" to his beloved lost friend. What a GOAT & a legend!!!

'Angels have waited...for so long; now they...have their way. Take your place.' Powerful words for his friend, fittingly the last lyrics of the song, before transitioning into that longing, ineffable sonic tribute/lament for his lost friend. Ending the conversation with saying goodbye. SRV says as much in an interview or two, where he relates how impactful Mr. Wirz was upon his life. His tone is admiringly reverential. Seemingly the only other person held with such high regard would be his mentor Albert King. Apparently they were both father figures to him, imho.

People are always asking who's the greatest guitarist of all time.... It depends on the taste,of style of music.... Some are tappers, shredders, benders , or pickers .... For me the greatest is someone l could listen to all day.... And just with, whatever song they play ,you never want it to end.... Stevie, Gilmore, Hendrix, Page, Blackmore, Hammet, Rhodes, Van Halen , Glenn Campbell, Chet Adkins, Tony Iiomi, Clapton, BB King , Albert King, Chuck Berry, Duane Allman, and the list goes on .... The greatest guitar player,is the one who l love listening to, and touches, ears, and my heart that minute l listen to them.... All are the greatest if they capture your emotions, imagination, and helps a bad day get better....
