My family and I moved to Colorado in 2005 when I was 40. My kids were young - they both were born in Hawaii in the 90s. I think we were all reborn in that environment. I know its different now, but we found some peace and solidute then that was absolutel magic.

John Denver was perfect for the earthiness of the 70s. His music helped people rediscover the beauty of nature as well as the simple beauty of life. I may have been a kid in the 70s, but I remember hearing his voice on the radio and, even then, recognizing the soothing property of his singing. I remember one of my favorite songs being "I'm Leaving On A Jet Plane". I would sing along with him whenever it came on the car radio. My Dad would turn it up because he knew I liked that song. John Denver was truly an American icon.

Listen to John’s “The Wings That Fly Us Home”. He wrote it, but I’d been to dozens of Denver concerts and he never performed it. Finally at the last concert I went to , two months before he died, he sang this song at an outdoor concert . I had tears running down my face. The man was a genius….

"Grandma's Feather Bed" and "Port of Amsterdam" two other varieties of him, one somewhat comedic the other gritty. He was campfire music, as we sat around and listen to those in the family who played instruments and shared a few drinks.

"I've seen it raining fire in the sky" refers to the way meteor showers show up in that clear mountain night sky. "Talk to God and listen to the casual reply" - my favorite line. Yeah, you can do that in the Rockies. "Friends around the campfire, and everybody's high" has nothing to do with drugs. It's about the elevated spirit that comes from being so close to nature.

I love John Denver and grew up listening to his songs on the radio. He was so popular in the 70's. I was born and raised in the New Mexico Rocky Mountains and spent 30 years hiking and camping and horse back riding in the New Mexico/Colorado Rockies. Now I've lived in the Alberta Canada Rockies for the last 30 years of my life and have enjoyed hiking and camping in them. I love the Rocky Mountains so of course this song really hits home for me. Beautiful song! John Denver was a gifted singer songwriter & actor. He had so many great hits in the 70's-80's. Some of his signature songs were "Annie's Song", "Fly Away", "Leaving On A Jet Plane", "Poems, Prayers & Promises", "Calypso", "Sunshine On My Shoulders", "Grandma's Feather Bed" etc. John appeared in several films & television specials during the 70's-80's, including the 1977 hit "Oh, God!", in which he starred alongside George Burns.

Sadluly, I never got to see John Denver live but saw him perform many times on TV in the 70s. He was a frequent guest on variety shows. His full 1977 Concert from Australia and his 1995 Wildlife concert are on KZbin along with many other performamces. I remember waking up to "Thank God Im A Country Boy" playing on the old box radio my parents had mounted in the hallway. We had hardwood floors (the type that required buffing) that caused the sound to travel throughout the house, even to upstsirs boys bedrooms.

John Denver was a folk singer although most people class him as a country singer. He was a fantastic singer and song writer. He always sounded just as good live as he did on the studio versions. If you want to listen to a beautiful love song try 'For You' from his Wildlife Concert. He died far too young and the world lost a great talent and is all the poorer for it.

I have never been to the Rocky Mountains, although I have seen it from planes several times. But I have to imagine that everyone has a special place in their memories that took their breath away. For me, it's the Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes in Empire, Michigan. Every time I stand on the top of the dunes and take in the deep blue water of Lake Michigan I gasp. As far as you can see is that beautiful, vast body of water and the white sand of the dunes. At night, the sky is lit up by millions of stars instead of city lights. John Denver was taken too soon. I'm quite sure he got a gorgeous view of the Rocky Mountains and smiled.

In the mid-80s the US senate held hearings about music lyrics, pressing for censorship. John Denver & Dee Snider testified together. Music wise, polar opposites. John told the committee the story about how a decade earlier, radio stations boycotted this song because people thought Rocky Mountain High was about marijuana; getting “high”. Long story short, John doesn’t smoke or drink. Dude was super talented. He was something else.

Good thing I like John Denver's music the old lady had a thing for it. If only he would have listened to the mechanic and not taking the new to him experimental plane up. The mechanic told him there was an issue with the fuel switching valve. It was was a Bert Rutan Long EZ Canard. It's not so much that he was stunts over Clint Eastwood's estate at a illegal elevation, but the tank he was using ran out of fuel and he was unable to reach the fuel valve for switching tanks because it was placed in a bad spot. There's nothing wrong with experimental planes I have three. But I built them myself. Merle Haggard Mama Tried Or Fighting Side of Me. When Merle Haggard was in San Quentin in 1959 he was inspired to get into music by Johnny Cash 🚜🤠🐂
