Juna Serita (the bassist) is just wicked. I saw her in Atlanta last month, she's playing some small clubs with her US based band (The Sexy Beans) right now

Very cool I think if I remember correctly the bassist for this band studied under Tetsuo Sakurai the legendary Casiopea bassist (btw if you never seen Casiopea it is a must see, one of the best jazz fusion bands ever)

Great & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 FYI, the bassist Juna Serita has recently worked with Senri Kawaguchi as a member of "Senri's Seven". The special band plays "Pick UP The Pieces" in KZbin. Before I fell into Fox Hole and Pigeon Hole, Tower of Power used to be my most favorite band 😄 。 "What is hip?" was the song I actually played as an amateur trumpeter more than 40 years ago. The TOP's original and creative bassist Francis "Rocco" Prestia passed away last year (RIP) 😢.

Hey young brother these beauties are straight up Tower of Power fans. This is def hip! Im a spoiled New Orleans native who lived walking distance from Tips during my young adult years in the 1980s to late 1990s. So much feeding on live music many times per week. Power of Tower every time they were in town!

There's also a (double bass) version that they do! It includes a horn piece! They are awesome! Juna is pure 🔥

This is exactly what a reaction video should be - stopping throughout the song to comment on or explain what's going on. Not just a lazy nodding along. Subscribed. The transitions between the verses, choruses and bridge are so musical. And between the solos. This isn't just some loose jam. This is a composition!

oh now you have done it! another of my favorite youtube rabbit holes to dive into, the newer lineup is so good too. I love both lineups. but I really love the drummer (mimi) in their latest 2021 videos) they have so many great songs to jam to if you enjoy jazz. their original songs are fantastic. enjoy the ride you're about to go on!! haha. :)

Interesting cover. You absolutely need to hear the original funk classic What is Hip by Tower of Power. They had the most amazing horn sections of any band. You have to react to Tower of Power.

I had been thinking of requesting this video during one of your live streams. So glad to see others like this as much as I do! Though the original is from the 70s I think, my intro to it was the dance number they did to it on the Drew Carey show.

Another great reaction and another female group from Japan taking control of the funk side of world. Keyboard reminded me a little of Jimmy Smith (master of the B3). BTW, don't forget Yoyo improv tonight at 11PM your time.

Dankon pro la bona reago, Wave. You might like to react to "Jeff Beck Night highlight - Muses". As the titled indicates the video shows the highlights of the live evening of the Band "Muses" (not the full songs) feat. Juna. At 3:45 Juna shares her bass with the Muses guitarist. Juna plays the low cords, the guitarist the high cords! Playing bass with four hands!! I never saw this before!

The drummer here is brilliant. She has quite a few videos on KZbin displaying her skills. Her solos are fantastic. Unfortunately now she's doing basic drumming in a pop band.

I don't know how I missed this 6 days ago but, strangely enough, I just "discovered" TOKYO GROOVE JYOSHI today (and then this popped up as a suggestion). About 15 years ago I auditioned to play keyboards for a funk band and this was one of the numbers to play. I ended up not joining them (just wasn't my style of management).

a little tower of power trivia. Victor Conte, a bass player with TOP, was convicted of supplying steroids to Barry Bonds and other athletes in the BALCO scandal back in the 90s.

Great Job WAVE (and thanks to David G.!)! These girls are awesome! This was one of the vids on my "requests for Wave list". Tibetbill has a back story of the bass player (Juna Serita) and a possible colab with Yoyoka that was snubbed by Rie. Had something to do with the release of this video ("Juna Serita - Funk you ! 【 MV】" kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5a6k3R8bq1mrdU). Maybe he will re-post it here. Juna, (according to EZKY ADITYA CHANDRA, "was recognized as the #1 female bass player by the online rock magazine ???? in 2016".) Some of her vids are really cool and funky. This is my favorite.
